It seems that in the evening two or three of their neighbors came over and the Schwager family spent a very pleasant evening, playing games, cracking jokes and eating apples. Alfred was one among them and about nine o'clock stepped out the door. He did not come back and his continued absence led to a search. Finally, at about eleven o'clock, they found him down by the wind mill, some eighty rods from the house, lying flat on his back, dead. It was thought that a blood vessel burst in his head and that he wandered down by the mill and died, but since he was buried they have discovered his handkerchief tied to one of the fans of the mill. This leads to the theory that he climbed to the top of the mill, tied his handkerchief and fell to earth. This is a most difficult mill to mount and it is one of the mysteries how he could perform this feat ! in the night time. There were no marks on the body but he may have died before he struck the ground, not giving time for blood to circulate and marks to show. He was about 22 years of age and belonged to an excellent German family. ---Princeton Star Submitter: Joan Benner Coordinator Adams Co.
