The early records for my family spell the name "Manthei." Later on, it was changed to "Montie." I've also run across some Mantheys in the Montello County court house. Your ancestor was born about the time my ancestor was immigrating from the Posen area, so I'm afraid I don't know if there's a connection. I've not been able to figure out yet exactly where my Mantheis came from, so I've not done any research overseas on them. Thanks!
