    1. Green Lake Question
    2. My grandfather worked on a cranberry marsh in Berlin, WI during WWII. He said that they used to bring German POWs there to help on the farm. Does anyone know if there is any way to get a listing of the POWs that were held in Green Lake? Thanks in advance for the help. Regards, Jeff Lee jdlee@mmm.com

    1. Greetings from the new listowner
    2. Matt & Deb
    3. My name is Deb Gunther, and I have just taken over the listowner duties for this list. We have about 25 members at this time. Here's a bit about myself: I live in Glendale, Wisconsin, about 2 or so hours from Princeton. I'm descended from the Kleineider, Mlodzik and Rutkowski lines of Princeton and other towns in and near Green Lake County. Some of the Mlodziks moved to Cudahy WI (near Milwaukee) in the early 1900s, and that's where I was born. Other lines from the area that married into mine: Soda or Coda, Cain, Manthey, Kuffel, Waters, Hepp, Betts, Mueller, Sebert, Cotter, Kanke, Kuharski, Kallas, Ratajczak, Majshak or Mashock, Novitske, Sosinsky, Hammen, Bigott, Genetske, Goodnature, Pavelske, and Ottoway. A quick look through the Green Lake phonebook shows that many of these names still exist in the county. I just made my first visit there, and found the people delightfully welcoming and eager to help me. The local historical society in Princeton is charming and well-run. If you want to see if we connect, please check out my database at: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=gungazo I regret that I cannot do lookups in Green Lake Co., due to the distance it is from my home. If anyone on this list can do lookups please let us know. Also, I have no data other than what's shown on my database. Regards, Deb

    3. I am seeking info on the Mlodzik and Rutkowski families of Green Lake Co. I am descended from Joseph and Mary (Rutkowski) Mlodzik, via their daughter Stella. I already have their descendants thru 3 generations only, but would like to complete the list. Also interested in the other lines of Mlodzik (Felix) and Rutkowski. Deb Gunther Glendale, WI

    1. Ann Eliza Mackey nee Banta
    2. Boyle Heights is an early community in Los Angeles City, California. I have recently traced my gr gr grandmother, Ann Eliza Mackey, nee Banta, to Boyle Heights, circa 1900. She lived at 122 N. St. Louis St, and later at 222 N. St. Louis St, with her son Frank P. Mackey. Frank continued on at the house for several years after his mother died on December 11, 1915. She is buried at Evergreen Cemetery. I have found no trace of him since. Evergreen Cemetery is the oldest cemetery in the City of Los Angeles (1877). It is just a few blocks from N. St. Louis St. and E. 1st St, in Boyle Heights. I talked with cemetery staff today, who confirmed the following: Ann Eliza Mackey died on December 11, 1915. She was interred on December 14, 1915. She is burried in Lot 4032, Section E. Her age at death was 89 years. Ann Eliza Mackey, nee Banta, descended from a long line of Freisland Dutch, whose progenitor was Epke Jacobse. Source "A Frisian Family, The Banta Genealogy, Descendants of Epke Jacobse, who came from Friesland Netherlands, to New Amsterdam, February. 1659", by Theodore M. Banta, New York, 1893. Reprinted by the Higginson Book Co., Salem, MA. For a time, Frank P. Mackey resided at 1957 1/2 E. 1st St. Old City Directories provided much of the above, but some years were missing or in band condition, so I may not have the complete story. Ann was widowed in 1873, when her Husband, George, died in Green Lake County, Wisconsin, where they had farmed, migrating from Saratoga County, New York in the late 1840s. She went to St. Louis, MO for a while, and my last record of her and Frank was in an 1885 Special Census, Portage, Colombia County, WI. I do not know when she came to Boyle Heights, but a cousin had notes that she did, and a photo of her standing on the porch of her house, apparently the one at 222 N. St. Louis St. I have requested her death record from the state, as the county did not have a record (L.A. City having their own Public Health Dept. in those days). I hope to learn of her death, mortician, etc. Evergreen does not have any family information. I have also ordered her Probate file, which will provide some more information. I will also ask the LA Times to do an obituary search. What churches existed in this neighborhood, 1900 - 1915? The 1990 census is not available and there was no 1895 special census, so I do not know exactly when she took up residence in Boyle Heights. I believe that she owned the houses on St. Louis St., and here estate was sizable for that day. I will search for a land records index? Eager to communicate with anyone interested or able to share. Ronald E. Yielding,

    2. Hello All, Sorry for the trouble, but some kook sabotaged my e-mail subscriptions to the Rootsweb.com mailing lists. I can still receive postings to my USER683614@AOL.COM box, or here. I also have about a dozen screen names with two other Internet providers, so if those of you who I am helping will e-mail me privately, I'll give them to you. I hope this problem will resolve itself. 1. TARRANT-FEDEREN-SHANNON
    2. Hello to the Great State of Wisconsin, I am searching for any information anyone can provide me with regard to the surname TARRANT and FEDEREN. Both families lived in various parts of the state, but spent quite a bit of time in the Minneapolis area. I am searching for PHILIP FEDEREN (1883) and his wife EDITH FEDEREN (1884) and their two children FABIOLA TARRANT (1897) and CECILE TARRANT (1893). They were last known to be in the Twin Cities area in 1944, but their descendants could be anywhere by now. They were relatives of GEORGE A. SHANNON AND ISABELLA (McDonald) SHANNON of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, and their son ROBERT D. SHANNON, who was last known around 1942-44 to be living in Spencer, Iowa. Robert's wife was named JESSE and his children were ANNABELLE and GEORGE, also of Chippewa Falls, WI. Sometime around 1940-45, the family and the germane cousins and step-relatives scattered about the state for an unknown reason, so I'm asking for help from anyone in ANY Wisconsin County. Any information regarding these families or their descendants would be greatly appreciated. Yes, this was posted to every board in Wisconsin because the families scattered and I'm at the point of desperation. It conforms to the guidelines established by RootsWeb, USGenWeb and that awesome upstart ALHN, so it IS NOT considered spam. Take care all. I wish you the best of luck with your own searches. Also we are looking at the names SOBIESKI, KOSMOWSKI, KOSMOSKI, BRONK, GAPINSKI, GUTKOWSKI, MIONSKOWSKI, DOMAHOWSKI, KULPA. Thanks in advance for any leads. Cinny Sobieski
