    1. Platt Maps for the City of Berlin/ Help on Narrowing down a death date
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Betchkal, Betschkew, Beczkala, Betchka, Betchkaw, Berchtsky Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/mEC.2ACE/452 Message Board Post: Does anyone know how I could get some copies of Platt maps for the city of Berlin. I was interested in maps around the years 1883/4 thru 1895. Anything would be appreciated. I am trying to figure out when a relatived died. It appears he may have had a small farm on the North side of town east of the Fox River on Berlin Street. A 1901 Platt has the wife (Mary Betschkew/Beczkala/Betchka) on 2 acres of land on Berlin Street west of Bates Street. Her husband, Adam Betschew/Beczkala/Betchka died between 1886-1892. If I could see when the land changed names on the platt map from Adam to Mary I could further narrow down the date of death and find something in a newspaper article or alike. At the time this land was between Strongs and Gotts Addition and Franklins Addition. The Dartford Society helped me obtain the 1901 Platt Map. I was hoping to try to locate some of these maps on my own before asking the Society to help me again as I don't want to constantly ask for help and become bothersome. They are very complete and professional there and I true like them a lot and do not want to become a burden to them. IS there anyone out there that knows how I can solve this? I hope so. Thanks Peter Betchkal

Surnames: Manthei/Zerbel/Zabel/Turk Classification: Queries Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/mEC.2ACE/46.126 Message Board Post: There was a close association between the Zerbels and the Manthei's. At the least they had to be neighbors and at the closest they were possibly related. The Zerbels came from Province of Posen in 1884, a village called Nakel/Naklo. There were Manthei's there also. I am not sure but I think Arnswalde is where some of these families lived before going to the Netze River valley. My grandfather Zaabel who immigrated in 1894 was possibly from Arnswalde and he married into the Zerbel family. My great-great grandfather was born in Callies, Pomerania. These people were Missouri synod Lutherans and there are records of them in these papers. The church records in St. John's, Missouri synod, and an older church has some records. This is not very specific because I don't have enough information. The name Alwine is appearing in my Zerbel/Turk genealogy, so the location of the birthplace of Alwine may be a clue.

That end of the city was 1st and 2nd wards divided by Wisconsin St. It also contained farms for quite a while and people's locations were I.Ded by neighbor's names instead of numbers. The house numbering system only came into being in later years. Therefore everyone knew where this or that person's farm was so they would know the location of his house. The person you asked about was not necessarily famous - just a neighbor!
