It seems that in the evening two or three of their neighbors came over and the Schwager family spent a very pleasant evening, playing games, cracking jokes and eating apples. Alfred was one among them and about nine o'clock stepped out the door. He did not come back and his continued absence led to a search. Finally, at about eleven o'clock, they found him down by the wind mill, some eighty rods from the house, lying flat on his back, dead. It was thought that a blood vessel burst in his head and that he wandered down by the mill and died, but since he was buried they have discovered his handkerchief tied to one of the fans of the mill. This leads to the theory that he climbed to the top of the mill, tied his handkerchief and fell to earth. This is a most difficult mill to mount and it is one of the mysteries how he could perform this feat ! in the night time. There were no marks on the body but he may have died before he struck the ground, not giving time for blood to circulate and marks to show. He was about 22 years of age and belonged to an excellent German family. ---Princeton Star Submitter: Joan Benner Coordinator Adams Co. The early records for my family spell the name "Manthei." Later on, it was changed to "Montie." I've also run across some Mantheys in the Montello County court house. Your ancestor was born about the time my ancestor was immigrating from the Posen area, so I'm afraid I don't know if there's a connection. I've not been able to figure out yet exactly where my Mantheis came from, so I've not done any research overseas on them. Thanks!

I was looking at a piece of a plat map for St. Marie twp in Green Lake County and found: Felix Malodjeck on land East of Princeton, about 140 acres in Sections 11 and 12 in the twp west of St. Marie. There is not a date on this map and the bordering twps are not stated. I believe the map is around 1895. The spelling is off but so are some of the other names listed. The land is in parts on both sides of a N/S road and it is located south of School No. 7. His neighbor to the north is Mashuda;(the school is on the NE corner of the Mashuda section) to the south is Heisek. I'm sure you could get land records from the Reg. of Deeds in Green Lake County. Hope this fits into your family history.

I would very much like to find out more about Fred (Fred appears to not have lived to long after he married Amelia and she then married August Winterhack). Any info would be appreciated.
