Whitcomb was born in Canada Jan. 15, 1823, and died at his residence in Albany March 18, 1894, aged 71 years, 3 months and 3 days. When two years of age his parents moved to Portsmouth, Ohio, remaining there until 1836, when they came to Green County, Wisc., and located 5 miles southwest of where Monroe now stands, remaining there until 1842, then located one and a half miles south of Albany. Mr. Whitcomb was three times married. In 1850 he went to the gold fields of California, where he was married to Jane Britten, returning to his former home in 1866. To them was born one child, Joshua, who lived only one and a half years. Mrs. Whitcome died Sept. 12, 1877. In July, 1878 he was married to Jane Moore. He went to Lake Koshkonong, near Ft. Atkinson, erected a hotel, which soon became a fashionable resort. Here the death of his second wife occurred Jan. 25, 1880, leaving a little son six months old, Charles Willis Whitcomb, better known as Willie Mitchell. This caused him to dispose of his property and return to Albany. May 11, 1896 at Pensacola, Fla., he was married to Mrs. Elizabeth Flake, who survives him, but owing to ill health is now taking medical treatments and was unable to cheer and comfort him in his last days. He was a man who traveled quite extensively and he read much and had his mind well stored with useful information. He was generous in disposition, kind to the poor and did his best to exemplify the text "Whatsoever you would that others should do unti you, do ye even so unto them". Mr. Whitcomb leaves a wife, one sister and a son, also many true friends to mourn their loss.
