Roberts in this village on Sunday June 8, 1894, Jonathan H. Roberts, aged 89 years, 6 months and 28 days. Jonathan H. Roberts was born in the state of Maine on Nov. 5 1804. He moved to Ohio in 1834 and to Wisconsin in 1844. He was converted and joined the Freewill Baptist Church when he was 18. Some years later he joined the United Brethren Church of which he has remained a faithful and devotoed member until death. He was for many years an ordained preacher and filled that holy office with acceptability. He was married to Maria Davis in 1830, there were born to them 3 sons, 2 of whom are still living. Father Roberts buried his wife 24 years ago and since that time he has walked life's pathway alone. For 20 years he has lived with his son, Dr. G.W. Roberts, where he has had a comfortable home. All that willing hands and loving hearts could do was done to make Father Roberts' days bright and happy. It can truthfully be told that Grandpa had no enemies; everybody loved him. Christ never had a truer, more devoted disciple--always at church when able to go and of late years would be at prayer meeting when failing strength made it difficult indeed. The M.E. Church at Albany (although Grandpa was not a member) sustains a severe loss in his removal. Where is there another such good man--a good theologian, a ready talker, a wise counselor, a mature Christian. He was at church 2 weeks before he died and in the morning class meeting said "I feel the end is very near". Indeed it was, it was his last testimony. On Sunday, June 3 he closed his eyes on earth to enter upon the glories of Heaven. He lived beyond his appointed time to see his 90th year. Of this man it may be said: "He being dead yet speaketh". His mortal remains were laid to rest near Janesville and suitable funeral services will be held hereafter. H.A. Rogers
