Martin, aged 35 yeaers, 1 month and 26 days. William H. Martin, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. William Martin of this village, was born in the town of Brooklyn on Jan. 28, 1850 and lived with his parents until July 20, 1878, when, in company with a friend, he went to Minnesota with the intention of remaining only during the harvest season, but it seems, changed his mind while there and determined to see more of the world. He engaged in the occupation of a lineman which he followed successfully until some time last year when he met with an accident in Pittsburgh, Pa while adjusting a wire, and fell a distance of 35 feet, nearly causing his death and resulting in injuries from which he never entirely recovered. From there he went with a friend, Charles Phillips, to Covington, Ky. at which place his mind began to fail. He was advised to return home, which he did, arriving in Albany May 20, 1893. He was very anxious to commence medical treatment and was taken to Mendota. Hopes of his recovery were entertained up until Friday, March 16, when he met with a second accident, falling from a roof to the ground, a distance of 50 feet, receiving internal injuries which resulted in his death the following Monday. The remains were brought to his home and were interred Wednesday in the Catholic cemetery. A source of consolation to his sorrowing parents and the sister and brother who are left to mourn their loss, is a letter from a young man who has followed the same occupation and was with him continually for the past nine years, telling of the purity of his life, his temperate habits and regular attendance at the church of which he was a member, and the good name which followed him everywhere and which remained unsullied through all his wanderings.
