Wi Obituaries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Wi/GreenObits/10565 Surname: Dolsen, Jobes, Bartlett, Filer ------------------------- Albany, Green County Wisconsin Vindicator, Thursday, June 14, 1894 Gilbert Dolsen was born near the city of Chatham, Canada Aug. 24, 1806. When a mere boy he moved to Detroit, Michigan and was one of the first settlers of that city. He engaged in the mercantile business in Detroit until 1845, when he removed to Janesville, Wisconsin where he made his home until 1861 when he became a resident of the village of Albany. He engaged in the milling business for a short time then purchased a drug store which he managed for about 3 years, then sold out and purchased a half interest with H.B. Jobes in the dry goods business. In 1871 the store and the home were destroyed by fire and Mr. Dolsen lost nearly all he possessed. In 1872 he went to Kansas, where he remained 10 years, returning to Albany in 1882, since which time he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. G.W. Bartlett. Here he has spent the declining years of his life very happily, tenderly cared for by his daughter and her husband and surrounded by the friends of his later life. He was married in Detroit May 3, 1829 to Julia A. Filer with whom he lived 33 years. They were the parents of 12 children, of whom 5 are living at the present time. He died on Monday, June 11, 1894 aged nearly 88 years. The funeral services were held at the Baptist Church at 2 pm yesterday, conducted by Rev. Jas. Mountain and were attended by a large concourse of relatives and friends. J.M.
