    1. [WIGREEN] DOCUMENTS ON MY GGgmo LOUISA (HILLS) SANDERS AND DESCENDANTS
    2. Hope this makes it as all others bounced or became lost in cyber space. My Cessna's, Sanders where also in Muscatine and Hardin Counties. My grandmother (Sanders) Riddle was born Hardin County, Iowa. The family was also in Green County, Wisconsin. This include my Hills, Cessna's and Sanders. Since I will be posting this to other list's Louisa Hills Sanders is the dau., of Joel Hills and Mary "Polly" Fox of Cortland County, Ny. Louisa was born Sept 17, 1813 in Truxton, Cortland County and was married in Manlius, Ononadaga County abt 1830 to Wm Charles Sanders. Someone recently asked if G-aunt Hattie had been in Kansas? Well I still don't know but since her married name is in the obit perhaps someone can answer the question. If any of you connect to the nicknames or any of them for that matter would love to hear from you. But want to find the given names of those without them. I also will post this to the Ny., Oneida County site as Elijah Dewayne Sanders was born there Dec 02, 1848 and it is the last place that my GGgfa was known to be alive. I'm posting the documents just as received for future generations of researchers. I have learned several or more things from it. Besides being tickled to death that my cousin Nancy (Hills) Lamps researched it for me and I didn't know a thing about her efforts until she sent it to me. First that my people were in an Iowa County not mentioned in previous FHB's that I'm aware of other than my Ggmo Louisa was buried there and I couldn't understand why. Two that there are two more children that are not listed in previous history. That's going be a bit of problem to sort out until another cousin comes forward with the information. The reason it's a problem. Is because they used nicknames instead of given names. Perhaps I can solve that with census information. Three that my Great grand parent's Joel Sanders and his wife Rewama Cessna were in Hamilton, Caldwell County, Missouri. This was not previously known or mentioned in the FHB. I often puzzled over how my gfa George Washington Riddle of Chillicothe, Livingston County Missouri met my gmo Mary "Molly" Sanders. My Ggfa John Wesley Riddle of Rono, Perry County, Indiana settled in Caldwell County, Missouri. The info in relation to Wm Sanders and Spanish War Vet can not be my Wm Charles Sanders because he would have been 90--100 years+ at the time. I left it in for you other Sanders researchers. Hi Stan, I checked the microfilms of the old Waterloo City Directories today and found a few entries. Keep in mind that not every year was filmed, but at least this might help you figure out what happened when! Microfilm CD-01 1873-74 only Page 47 Sanders, -----, teamster, res 5th & Walnut ES (This reads, last name Sanders, no first name given, residence at corner of 5th & Walnut streets on the East Side of Waterloo) Microfilm CD-02 1886 only Page 37 Sanders, Dennison, teamster, Commercial (This reads last name, first name, occupation, residence West side of town) Microfilm CD-03 1888-89; 1897-98 1888-89 Page 133 Sanders, Dennison, laborer, h 126 N. Commercial Sanders, Eliza, widow of William, h 126 N Commercial (this reads that Dennison was a laborer and home address was 126 North Commercial Street, West Side and that Eliza, widow of William also lived at same address...I would say it is likely Eliza is Louisa, Dennison's Mother) 1897-98 No Sanders listed (also checked outlying areas included in Directory) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Now Stan, here's what I think you'll be thrilled to have: the obituary for Louisa! Microfilm Waterloo Daily Courier January 1, 1898-April 30, 1898. Paper dated April 1, 1898, Page 5 (far left column, 6th article/paragraph): FUNERAL OF MRS. SANDERS The funeral of Mrs. Louisa Sanders, who died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bidwell, occurred this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence. Mrs. Sanders was 85 years of age and had been ill since last fall. She was the mother of twelve children; eleven of them are living. They are: Mrs. Green, Dunkerton; Mrs. Addie Richards, Fairbank; Mrs. Maria Bidwell, Waterloo; Denison, Goldfield; Elijah, Dows; Columbus, Jasper, Joel, Hamilton, Mo; Mrs. Celia Bean, Los Angeles, Cal; Mrs. Hattie Hutchins, Eagle Grove; Mrs. Eunice Adams, Wapsie Mills; Mrs. Clarinda Coon, Lincoln. Stan, Dunkerton, Fairbank and Eagle Grove are all close to Waterloo; Lincoln is about 50 miles southwest. I'm not sure where Goldfield is; I'd guess Wapsie Mills is in northeast Iowa somewhere along the Wapsipinicon River (look around Independence or Brandon Iowa to locate river) so you might want to get a good map of Iowa and some colored pins to mark the locations...I'd guess all but the Hamilton, Missouri and Los Angeles, California kids made it to her funeral! Oh, I also found "a" William Sanders in a cemetery index, but there are no dates on it: Fairview Cemetery, located at 611 Fairview Avenue, Waterloo, Iowa 50703 (Noted as there are 3 different ones locally) Section M, Lot #123 SANDERS, William Co. C 9 US OInf. Sp. Am. War (From this I'd guess Mr. Sanders participated in the Spanish American War which happened between April and August of 1898 and that he was in the Infantry section of Company C. I have typed it just as it was typed in the index...you might want to check with someone more familiar with the military than I for a better reading of this.) Based on the little I found today, I'd guess that Mr. Sanders may have died during the Spanish American War, and they never recovered his body, so just put the headstone there as a memorial. It's also possible his exact date of death was unknown, but keep in mind not everyone put dates on headstones. Also, because Mrs. Sanders' funeral was at her daughter's house and so soon after her death and there was no mention of where she was buried, I'm wondering if she was destitute and they could not afford a stone for her. She was NOT at the Fairview Cemetery where Mr. Sanders was found. I wasn't able to check all the cemetery indexes as a good portion of them had been sent to the bindery for repair! I'll try another research room, at the local museum later this week or early next, to see if they have more info on any of the Sanders' family, and will let you know what I discover! Stan
