Wi Obituaries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/GreenObits/10493 Surname: Magee, Patterson ------------------------- The community was pained to hear of the death of Mrs. A.W.Patterson on Wednesday last at 10 a.m. of leucocytheamin, as the result of malarial poisoning. She was a very patient sufferer and bore up with Spartan courage in the great struggle with the dread disease. Mr. and Mrs. Patterson first came to Algona in 1871 and spent some time here; they then made their home in Howard County, Nebraska where they lived for some years. From there they went to Louisiana but the climate had a debilitating effect on her and they concluded to come north again and located in Algona. Deceased was born near Exeter, Green County, Wis. Jan 18, 1849 and lived in the home where she was born until she was married in 1871. Her married life was one of unalloyed happiness. They were blessed with six children, all of whom are living but one; the oldest being a boy of 19 years; the youngest a girl of seven years. Mrs. Patterson had a large circle of friends and those that knew her best loved her most. Honest and upright in all her dealings, with a high moral sense, to know her was sure to result in appreciation. She was thoroughly devoted to her family duties, believing that a Christian mother's duty commenced at home in the family circle, and then devoting what time she could spare to work in connection with Woman's Relief Corps, church work and the Eastern Star. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to the poor and unfortunate. To her family the loss is beyond reparation; to those that are privileged to know her in the home and social circle, a congenial and loving spirt will be missed; one that did what she could to smooth away the rough places in this mundane sphere. May we all emulate her many virtues. This entire community sympathize with Mr. Patterson and family in their great sorrow. The funeral was held at the home on Friday afternoon, Rev. W.E.Davidson of the Congregational Church of which she was a devoted member, officiating. The Woman's Relief Corps and the Chapter of the Eastern Star attended and conducted the services at the grave. The Republican, Algona, IA - March 22, 1893 Transcribers note: Julia was the daughter of Lucy Cecelia (Eggleston) and George Magee, Sr. Her surviving children were Albert, George, Jennie, Alice, and Hattie.
