Wi Obituaries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Wi/GreenObits/10511 Surname: Palmer ------------------------- Albany, Green County Wisconsin, Vindicator June 20, 1895 Dr. Henry Palmer is No More Janesville, Wisc., June 15-Special-Dr. Henry Palmer was found dead in his bed this morning. Dr. Palmer was born at New Hartford, New York, sixty-eight years ago and graduated from the Albany Medical College with high honors. He served through the late was and was made brigade surgeon for the Iron Brigade, finishing his service with the brevet title of lieutenant colonel. He also served as an army surgeon in the Crimean War, he being in Europe at that time on a pleasure trip. He held the position of surgeon-general of the National Guard by appointment from Gov. Smith and served continually in that capacity until Gov. Hoard's last term. He was also the professor of surgery in the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Chicago and surgeon of the Chicago and Northwestern Road. A wife and four children survive him. His only son, W.P. Palmer, is a graduate of the school in which his father was professor. He was a member of the Loyal Legion and the G.A.R. and had been twice elected mayor of Janesville.
