Wi Obituaries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Wi/GreenObits/10514 Surname: Francis ------------------------- Albany, Green County Wisconsin Vindicator, Thursday, April 10, 1890 In Memoriam Henry Francis was born in Radnorshire, South Wales, December 16, 1847. He came to this country with his parents in the year 1855 and worked on his father's farm until June 11, 1873, when he went to Boulder, Colorado where he engaged in gold mining and where he has since resided, having visited his former home but once during that time. About 5 months ago he was badly injured by a blast in the mine which disabled him for a long time. As soon as he was able to work he went back into the same mine, and had only been working a few days, where, with his partner, he was blasting. When the blast was fixed and ready to be fired, his partner, who was about 15 feet from him in another drift where they could not see each other, called out "Are you ready?" Francis answered "let her go" where each party had to make their escape to a place of safety. Francis was overtaken by the blast in making his escape, which hurled his body into the shaft, a terribly mangled corpse. No blame could be attached to anybody. His body was prepared for burial by friends in Colorado, and brought back to his old home for burial, arriving here on Wednesday, March 26, 1890, funeral services being held at the Union Church in the English settlement, conducted by the Rev. R.N. Martin. He leaves three brothers and three sisters to mourn his untimely end. Link: Meinert Family Genealogy URL: <http://pubweb.nwu.edu/~osmun>
