Wi Obituaries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Wi/GreenObits/10541 Surname: Colton, Wheeler, Hulbert ------------------------- Albany, Green County, Wisconsin Vindicator, Thursday, October 8, 1891 Died--At his residence in this city, on Saturday, October 3, 1891, at 12:15 am, Melzar Colton, aged 60 years, 10 months and 26 days. Melzar Colton was born in New York, Dec. 7, 1830. His father died in 1835, and the next year his mother removed to Coles Co., Illinois, where they remained until 1839, then came to Green County. Mr. Colton was educated in the district schools and taught six terms. Since then he has engaged in farming. In 1855 he was married to Malvina A. Wheeler, a native of Vermont, who died in Sept., 1881. Six children were born to them--John E., William O., Fred M. (deceased), Mary E., Malvina J., and Hattie L. (deceased). He was married again to Hannah Hulburt in 1882, who survives him. Mr. Colton has held many local offices, discharging the duties devolving upon him in a faithful manner. For many years he has been a consistent professor of religion and a member of the Gap Church. Two years ago last Spring, he rented his farm and moved to Albany, and at the time of his death had just bought a house and lot and was making extensive repairs on them. In August 1890, Mr. Colton had a severe paralytic stroke and has since then been gradually failing, but his death was rather unexpected. In death, this community loses a good citizen, and his bereaved wife and children an unusually kind and loving husband and father. The sympathy of all goes out to them in their great sorrow. The funeral was held Sunday afaternoon and was very largely attended, many being present from the neighboring towns. Rev. J.C. Carter delivered a sermon full of comfort and sympathy to the stricken ones, after which the remains were taken to the cemetery at the Gap Church for interment.
