Nichols, one of the very oldest of Albany's residents, took place in the cottage on the hill in this village at 2:00 Sunday afternoon Sept. 4 and the remains deposited in the family vault. Rev. J.C. Carter officiated. The choir of the Baptist Church rendered the music. Her death occurred at 3:30 pm on September 2, (Friday), surrounded by all of her children who gave her every comfort loving hearts and willing hands could devise to smooth her passage from this life. Her sickness was brief, being prostrated by grief at the loss of her son, Bartle W., who died four weeks previously to a day, after which she rallied and it was hoped she would regain her usual strength, but age had weakened her frame, a fever set in and after 7 days she passed over the river without a struggle in full faith in the Saviour and up to two hours before the close spoke cheerfully and prayed, and being asked, said she was comfortablel and did not suffer. Julia A. Bartle was born June 16, 1896 in Newark, NY. She was united in marriage to Dr. Samuel F. Nichols at the same place in 1826. In 1845 they moved to Janesville, Wisc., and to Albany the following year. They were pioneers and lived in a log house for the time by the banks of the Sugar River. She lived to see a thriving village, making this her home all these years, except when temporarily absent a few winters in New Jersey by reason of her husband's failing health and in Colorado Springs for the same reason when Samuel F. Nichols died. Of late years, her own health failing, two seasons were passed in San Diego, Calif., and she returned stronger, but was living on borrowed time. Added time would be more suffering for her. To go is to have all this life's unfulfilled desires satisfied. There will be a memorial service conducted by the Rev. J.C. Carter at the Baptist Church next Sunday morning.
