Holmes died at his residence about two miles east of this village Tuesday evening Jully 9, 1889 aged 32 years, 11 months and 29 days. Mr. Holmes was sick about four weeks from inflammatory rheumatism, but hemorrhage of the brain was the immediate cause of his death. He was possessed of considerable property for a young man, and when taken with his last illness had nearly finished a fine dwelling on his farm and was noted among his neighbors for the beauty and convenience of his farm and buildings. On the 10th of Jan., 1882, Mr. Holmes was married too Miss Alvira L. Rodd, who with a little girl of 3 years of age, are left to mourn his untimely death. The funeral was held at the M.E. Church on Thursday, the 11th inst. at 4:00 pm, the services being conducted by Rev. Jas. Lawson, and was very largely attended by his friends and neighbors, who gathered to pay their last respects to one whom they will long miss and mourn as an honest, upright and conscientious man. The heartfelt sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved wife and child in their sad bereavement and also to his mother, sister and brothers who will sorely grieve the loss of a loved one.
