Alverson, aged 55 years, 5 months and 22 days. Thomas H. Alverson was born in Oswego, New York February 6, 1834, and was of a family of 11 children, having had 5 brothers and 5 sisters, 4 brothers and 1 sister surviving him. His parents were natives of Vermont, and the family was of sturdy New England stock. At the age of 10 1/2 years he removed with his parents to the northern part of this state, and a few years later settled at Janesville, and resided there until he enlisted in the army, in April, 1861. He served through the entire was, and was honorably discharged in August, 1865. In March, 1864, when he had re-enlisted, he returned home on furlough, and married Susan Carle, oldest daughter of Mr. B.F. Carle, then of the town of Brooklyn, who, with their three children, Frank, George, and Mary Elsie, survives him. Mr. Alverson was a man of undoubted integrity and will be greatly missed in the community. He was well and favorably known, left an honorable record, and closed a credible career, leaving behind him a good name and an unsullied reputation. While he had not enjoyed good health for a number of years, it was not until the past few years that he could be said to be in failing health and his death was not unexpected. The funeral, which was very largely attended, took place on Tuesday, July 30, 1889 and was conducted by the Rev. R.N. Martin, pastor of the Baptist Church of Albany. A short service was held at the late residence at 2:00, after which his remains were taken to the Baptist Church, where the funeral services were held, follwed by an unusually large number of mourning friends and his comrades of the G.A.R. who generously took charge of the funeral, and tenderly paid their last tribute to their late comrade in a very appropriate manner. An appropriate and impressive discourse ws delivered from 2nd Cor., 1st Chapter 9 & 10th verses.
