Morton was born in Spencer County, Indiana, June 25, 1821, and departed this life at his residence in this village February 20, 1891 aged 79 years, 7 months and 28 days. At the age of 18 years, Mr. Morton came to Wisconsin with his mother, his father having previously died, and settled in the town of Clarno, living there until 1841, when they moved to Monroe. Six years later he married Sarah Boyls, and in that year, 1847, bought a farm in Mt. Pleasant, residing there until five years ago. In 1886 he built the fine frame house in East Albany in which he died, doing the greater part of the work with his own hands. Mr. Morton was an honest, upright citizen, a good neighbor, a man whose word was as good as his bond. By industry and economy he acquired a competency to support him in his declining years, and it was hoped he would long live to enjoy it; but on Thursday last he sustained a paralytic stroke, surviving the shock but one day. The funeral services were held in the Baptist Church on Monday afternoon, Rev. R. N. Martin of Evansville delivering a beautiful and impressive sermon to a large concourse who gathered to pay the last sad respects to one universally loved and esteemed. A sorrowing wife and eight children are left to mourn the loss of a kind and indulgent husband and father, to whom the sincere sympathy of the entire community is extended.
