    1. [WIGREEN] SANDERS/HILLS CORTLAND-ONONDAGA and ONEIDA COUNTIE'S
    2. My GGgfa Wm Sanders is my toughie. Do none of you connect to my Sanders line. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------------- I checked the microfilms of the old Waterloo City Directories today and found a few entries. Keep in mind that not every year was filmed, but at least this might help you figure out what happened when! Microfilm CD-01 1873-74 only Page 47 Sanders, -----, teamster, res 5th & Walnut ES (This reads, last name Sanders, no first name given, residence at corner of 5th & Walnut streets on the East Side of Waterloo) Microfilm CD-02 1886 only Page 37 Sanders, Dennison, teamster, Commercial (This reads last name, first name, occupation, residence West side of town) Microfilm CD-03 1888-89; 1897-98 1888-89 Page 133 Sanders, Dennison, laborer, h 126 N. Commercial Sanders, Eliza, widow of William, h 126 N Commercial (this reads that Dennison was a laborer and home address was 126 North Commercial Street, West Side and that Eliza, widow of William also lived at same address...I would say it is likely Eliza is Louisa, Dennison's Mother) 1897-98 No Sanders listed (also checked outlying areas included in Directory) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Now Stan, here's what I think you'll be thrilled to have: the obituary for Louisa! Microfilm Waterloo Daily Courier January 1, 1898-April 30, 1898. Paper dated April 1, 1898, Page 5 (far left column, 6th article/paragraph): FUNERAL OF MRS. SANDERS The funeral of Mrs. Louisa Sanders, who died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bidwell, occurred this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence. Mrs. Sanders was 85 years of age and had been ill since last fall. She was the mother of twelve children; eleven of them are living. They are: Mrs. Green, Dunkerton; Mrs. Addie Richards, Fairbank; Mrs. Maria Bidwell, Waterloo; Denison, Goldfield; Elijah, Dows; Columbus, Jasper, Joel, Hamilton, Mo; Mrs. Celia Bean, Los Angeles, Cal; Mrs. Hattie Hutchins, Eagle Grove; Mrs. Eunice Adams, Wapsie Mills; Mrs. Clarinda Coon, Lincoln. Stan, Dunkerton, Fairbank and Eagle Grove are all close to Waterloo; Lincoln is about 50 miles southwest. I'm not sure where Goldfield is; I'd guess Wapsie Mills is in northeast Iowa somewhere along the Wapsipinicon River (look around Independence or Brandon Iowa to locate river) so you might want to get a good map of Iowa and some colored pins to mark the locations...I'd guess all but the Hamilton, Missouri and Los Angeles, California kids made it to her funeral! So finally, here is the info about Louisa HILLS' parents and her 12 siblings from "The Hills Family in America": 252. Joel-5 (Elisha-4, John-3, Joseph-2, William-1), b. E. Cortland Co., NY; d. Cortland Co., NY, aged 13 months. Also as you note below, Cornelius HILLS moved to Oregon. In fact, he must have done so sometime between 19 Feb. 1851 (his marriage to Sophronia Briggs in Iowa) and 3 Apr. 1852 (birth in Oregon of Mary S., his first born). Given the traveling conditions in his day, I would guess he did so in the summer of 1851. A pretty adventurous family I'd say, given that they went West only 8 years after the Oregon Trail really started getting much use. The following I just found this week on the Onondaga Co. website. Do not know if he is mine or not.
