Amanda is listed on the 1850 census in Spring Grove Twp, Green County, WI as living in the David Davis household. Her age is listed as 7 yrs. old and her birth place is listed as IL. One of David's sons is Joel P. Davis who is also living at home and is 17 yrs. old. Now we go to the 1860 census where we find Amanda married to Joel. In the 1870 census, there is some confusion because Joel's wife is now named Susan. One interesting side note however, there is a W. Lowbaugh, age 18, born in IL now living with them. The 1880 census again has Amanda listed as Joel's wife but W. Lowbaugh is no longer a part of the household. Unfortunately we have to skip to 1900 at this point and although a few Davis families still reside in Green County, Joel and family appear to have vanished. After checking the Wisconsin Birth & Death Records, a Joel P. Davis died in Green County on 25 Jan 1890. It is also interesting to note that a Joel Davis was born 3 April 1890 in Green country. Does anybody recognize any of this. Is there a published History of Green County, Wisconsin?
