    1. McCAULIFF, McAULIFF, MAHONEY, DOYLE, BRIGGS
    2. Hi Lori, Thanks for all your work. I am researching the family of Thomas MCCAULIFF who settled in Adams Township, Green County, in 1850. He came with a young family from Illinois where I think he had worked on the Michigan/Illinois canal. They had previously lived in Syracuse, NY (Erie Canal enhancement time) and immigrated from County Cork, Ireland. I don't know where in County Cork. Anyway, William, b 1839 (Cork), John, b 1843(NY), Catherine b.1848 (Illinois) and Mary Ann b. 1850 (Illinois) were the siblings joined by Edward, Thomas and Hannah born in Green County. I know Thomas was a landowner in 1861. I know most about William who was my great grandfather, but I have found that John married Susan Briggs, Catherine, married a Kelley, Mary Ann a Doyle and Hannah married Thomas Mahoney. Edward and Thomas just sort of disappeared and I am pretty sure they were not living by 1903 when William died as they were not listed in his rather detailed obit which listed his surviving siblings. He homesteaded in northwest Iowa in 1871 so I knew nothing about any of his siblings when I started my tracing. John and Susan and family wound up in Butler County, IA as did Mary Ann Doyle living with a son-in-law in 1900 with two daughters, Jane and Catherine. Her older daughter, Magdalen who was married to son-in-law mentioned, Joseph Crotty, died after childbirth in 1900. One of John's sons was Pearl James McCauliff which is decidedly a different first name for our family yet I have not found him beyond 1900 census at this time. I have found Jane Doyle's line and we are pretty sure she was born in Lafayette County. She married a Frank McGee in Butler County. Hannah and Thomas Mahoney also lived in Shullsberg, Lafayette County according to 1900 census. I have limited info on Green County, including where the father Thomas was buried. His wife, Mary Barry must have gone to live with children in Butler County after his death because she is buried there with family but not Thomas.
