    1. Catherine Klumb Thompson Randall Obituary
    2. Brian Burt
    3. Posted on: Green Co. Wi Obituaries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/GreenObits/454 Surname: Klumb, Thompson, Randall, Lewis, McNair, Hall ------------------------- Obituary From The Brodhead Independent January 14, 1892 OBITUARY MRS. CATHERINE M. RANDALL Mrs. Catherine Maria Randall, whose maiden name was Klumb was born at Ellmer in province Kobbling, Prussia, Jan. 13, 1831. In early childhood she came to this country, and when only fifteen years of age, was married to Nelson Thompson, Feb. 17, 1846. For more than eight years, or until July 4, 1854, they resided in Milwaukee when they removed to Green Co., Wis. In 1872 Mr. Thompson died leaving her a widow with eight children. Five years later, June 17, 1877, she was united in marriage with Mr. David Randall, of Brodhead; after nearly five years of happy wedded life she was again left a widow, Mr. Randall's death occurring March 17, 1882. Her remaining years were spent with her children, some of whom had settled in Iowa, and some living in Wisconsin. Last summer she visited her daughters, Mrs. E. McNair, of this city, and Mrs. Wm. Hall of Decatur, spending some weeks with them, but she was then in very feeble health. She returned to her son's, Mr. Frank Thompson, in Waverly, Iowa, and at that place she passed to the better home above on January 4th, 1892, aged 61 years. She leaves eight children to mourn her departure. Sympathy for them is felt by a wide circle of friends, and is in place, but not for her. She lived well and so was able to die well. For many years she had been a consistent member of the Baptist church; her life had been consecrated to the cause of Christ and her going was but a going to her reward. About a fortnight before her death, her daughter Mrs. E. McNair was summoned to her bedside and remained with her to the end. Her remains were brought to Brodhead for burial in Greenwood Cemetery, and appropriate burial services were held in the Baptist church on Thursday, Jan. 7th, conducted by the pastor, Rev. A. K. Lewis. Despite the inclemency of the weather the church was filled with mourning friends and relatives, and a large number followed to her last resting place in the city of the death, one whom they had known only to love and esteem. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord"

    1. Louisa Thompson McNair Obituary

    3. Posted on: Green Co. Wi Obituaries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/GreenObits/450 Surname: Thompson, McNair, Klumb, Mitchell, Laube, Ryder, Hall, Robertson, Frazer, Stair, Swann, Broughton, Cole, Roderick, Pierce ------------------------- Obituary From The Brodhead Independent-Register December 11, 1930 OBITUARY Louisa Thompson McNair Louisa Thompson McNair was born in the township of Spring Grove, Green county, on April 26, 1857 and passed away at the home of her daughter in Brodhead, December 2, 1930, at the age of 73 years, 7 months, 6 days. She was the fifth child of Nelson and Catherine Klumb Thompson, pioneers in this vicinity. Her limited education in the rural schools was supplemented by worthy training in the home. Here were learned the habits of industry and frugality; here were imbibed the spirit of helpfulness, of devotion to duty, and of friendly hospitality. She was bereft at 15 years of a fathers tender care but was blessed with the helpful example of a resourceful widowed mother and the joy of close companionship of brothers and a sister. On March 11, 1880 she was united in marriage to Edward McNair of Spring Valley township, to whom she proved a most worthy helpmeet. They established their home on the McNair farm just northeast of Brodhead and here they resided until 1896 when they moved to this city and built the house which was their home for more than thirty years. To these two, four children were born, three of whom survive to know the loss of a devoted mother: Millicent, now Mrs. E. J. Mitchell of this city; Gertrude, Mrs. F. Laube of Seattle, Wash.; and Edward Ralph, a practicing physician of Lansing, Mich. The death of Jessie, the third daughter, occured in 1896. Four grandchildren are left to mourn a loving grandmother: Mrs. Florence Laube Ryder of Santa Monica, Calif.; Stuart and Robert Mitchell of this city, and Jane McNair of Lansing, Mich. One sister, Mrs. Addie Hall, and four brothers, Charles, Lafayette, Wash., and Grant preceded her in death. Two brothers survive: Frank Thompson of Watonga, Okla., and Myron Thompson of Fargo, N. D. The husband's death on June 11, 1929 meant the severing of the ties of companionship which had continued through youth and middle age to the sunset of life, there lacking just a few months for the culmination of a half century of wedded interests. She greatly missed him and the old home but her sorrow and loneliness were alleviated by the tender ministrations of loved ones in the home of her elder daughter, Mrs. Mitchell, and she derived much genuine comfort and enjoyment from remaining in the community where lived her many friends. Hers was a busy, useful life. She was a lover of home and was an untiring worker there. She also helped with community projects, for her heart was warm with love of the things that are best-her church, where she worshipped whenever possible, and the Aid society where she was an active and dependable worker, serving as its president for some time; the W. C. T. U. with whose purpose she was thoroughly in accord. During the World War she was one of the active workers of the Red Cross, and since then, in cooperation with the American Legion Auxiliary, has kept her nimble fingers busy whenever able, knitting sweaters and caps for the "boys" in the veterans hospitals. Many of the sick, the aged, and the shut-in, the bereft, of the community, have experienced her thoughtful helpfulness, for she exemplified the small town sympathy with the understanding heart. Her departure from us is but a translation to higher and holier ministries in that triumphant life in which she had strong, unswerving faith. Mrs. McNair had been in declining health for about five years, but her last illness was only of five days duration. On Thanksgiving morning she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and never regained consciousness, passing away at 8:15 Tuesday morning of last week. "When the end draws nigh And peace comes to our loved one With the soul's release If we, who watched the ebbing Of the tide of life Could, standing on the other side See the glad soul Escaping from its thrall Like a freed prisoner Answering the call Of sweet deliverance from pain and strife- Would we not with the angels sing, This is not Death, but Life?" The funeral services were held at the home of Dr. and Mrs. E. J. Mitchell on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. J. C. Robertson of the Congregational church of which she was a member. Solos were rendered by George Frazer accompanied by Mrs. Seraph Pierce. The pall bearers were Archie Swann, H. C. Broughton, Edward Cole, B. H. Roderick, J. B. Pierce and L. J. Stair. Interment was in Greenwood cemetery. Dr. E. J. McNair and wife, and Stuart Mitchell of Chicago were present at the funeral service. CARD OF THANKS - The evidences of what the poet has called "small town sympathy" were so many during the illness and passing of our beloved mother that we feel deeply grateful for every deed and word which gave us comfort during this trial. Mrs. F. J. Laube, Mrs. E. J. Mitchell, Dr. E. R. McNair, and families

In 1900 the family moved from their farm to the village where they have since resided. Mr. Stephenson died on October 25, 1924. For the past six years her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Stauffacher, Stillwater, Minn., have lived with her and cared for her in her illness. Survivors are the daughters, Mrs. A. F. Stauffacher and Mrs. Frank Trow, Albany, and the son, Eugene Stephenson, Detroit, Mich. There are five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
