Posted on: Green Co. Wi Obituaries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Wi/GreenObits/10526 Surname: Nichols ------------------------- Albany, Green County, Wisconsin Vindicator, Thursday, September 8, 1892 Albany, Sept. 5, 1892 The funeral of Julia A. Nichols, one of the very oldest of Albany's residents, took place in the cottage on the hill in this village at 2:00 Sunday afternoon Sept. 4 and the remains deposited in the family vault. Rev. J.C. Carter officiated. The choir of the Baptist Church rendered the music. Her death occurred at 3:30 pm on September 2, (Friday), surrounded by all of her children who gave her every comfort loving hearts and willing hands could devise to smooth her passage from this life. Her sickness was brief, being prostrated by grief at the loss of her son, Bartle W., who died four weeks previously to a day, after which she rallied and it was hoped she would regain her usual strength, but age had weakened her frame, a fever set in and after 7 days she passed over the river without a struggle in full faith in the Saviour and up to two hours before the close spoke cheerfully and prayed, and being asked, said she was comfortablel and did not suffer. Julia A. Bartle was born June 16, 1896 in Newark, NY. She was united in marriage to Dr. Samuel F. Nichols at the same place in 1826. In 1845 they moved to Janesville, Wisc., and to Albany the following year. They were pioneers and lived in a log house for the time by the banks of the Sugar River. She lived to see a thriving village, making this her home all these years, except when temporarily absent a few winters in New Jersey by reason of her husband's failing health and in Colorado Springs for the same reason when Samuel F. Nichols died. Of late years, her own health failing, two seasons were passed in San Diego, Calif., and she returned stronger, but was living on borrowed time. Added time would be more suffering for her. To go is to have all this life's unfulfilled desires satisfied. There will be a memorial service conducted by the Rev. J.C. Carter at the Baptist Church next Sunday morning.

Through all her long and painful illness she was always thoughtful of the comfort of others and was always surrounded by the angel hand for whom she had been a willing medium for many years, and gave her many bright visions of the new house into which she was slowly drifting. Wi Obituaries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Wi/GreenObits/10514 Surname: Francis ------------------------- Albany, Green County Wisconsin Vindicator, Thursday, April 10, 1890 In Memoriam Henry Francis was born in Radnorshire, South Wales, December 16, 1847. He came to this country with his parents in the year 1855 and worked on his father's farm until June 11, 1873, when he went to Boulder, Colorado where he engaged in gold mining and where he has since resided, having visited his former home but once during that time. About 5 months ago he was badly injured by a blast in the mine which disabled him for a long time. As soon as he was able to work he went back into the same mine, and had only been working a few days, where, with his partner, he was blasting. When the blast was fixed and ready to be fired, his partner, who was about 15 feet from him in another drift where they could not see each other, called out "Are you ready?" Francis answered "let her go" where each party had to make their escape to a place of safety. Francis was overtaken by the blast in making his escape, which hurled his body into the shaft, a terribly mangled corpse. No blame could be attached to anybody. His body was prepared for burial by friends in Colorado, and brought back to his old home for burial, arriving here on Wednesday, March 26, 1890, funeral services being held at the Union Church in the English settlement, conducted by the Rev. R.N. Martin. He leaves three brothers and three sisters to mourn his untimely end. Link: Meinert Family Genealogy URL: <http://pubweb.nwu.edu/~osmun>

Grandpa's hands are folded now, folded on his peaceful breast; Grandpa's sorrows now are o'er, he has found eternal rest. Oft the weary spirit pleaded in his suffering here below "Father, dear, if Thou are willing, I to Thee would gladly go." And the loving Father heard him, as he weak and suffering lay, And his soul passed through the portals of the pearly gates today. Here his pleasures soon were numbered, while his trials were not few, but if e're their weight oppressed him, there was none but God who knew. Gentle, patient, uncomplaining, with a kind word for us all, waiting ever for the summons, glad to answer to the call. And though the thought that he has left us, cause our hearts to swell with grief, Yet to know that he is happy, makes it still a glad farewell.
