Wi Obituaries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Wi/GreenObits/10597 Surname: Stephenson ------------------------- Albany, Green County Wisc., Vindicator, Thursday September 6, 1894 Myra E. Stephenson was born in Sylvester, Green County Wisc Aug. 31, 1868 and departed this life Sept. 1, 1894, aged 26 years. She lived with her parents on the farm until 1886 when they moved to their present home in the village of Albany, since which time she has lived with her parents excepting when teaching school. In July, 1893, after her school was finished she complained of being tired, but in company with a party of friends she visited the World's Fair. Soon after coming home she began to fail but kept around until Sunday, Aug. 5, four weeks previous to her death, when she gave up and was confined to her bed. She was a patient sufferer and no murmur escaped her lips. To the last she was anxious for those around her that they should not overdo in taking care of her. She passed from earth so quietly that the watchers never knew just when she entered the presence of the heavenly Father. Myra will be missed, not only by her parents, sisters and other relatives, to all of whom she endeared herself by her kindness of heart and thoughtfulness for the comfort and welfare of others, but by a wide circle of friends and acquaintances in fact by everyone who knew her. Her kind and gentle disposition and her habit of always thinking and planning for others in preference to herself, combine to make her memory a precious legacy to those who remain on the shores of time.

The cause of death was pneumonia. As the writer gazed on little Thelma, as she lay cold and lifeless with the sweet smile of Heaven on her baby face, the words of the Master came forcibly to her mind: "Of such is the Kingdom of Heaven" Truly the hand of affliction falls heavily upon the bereaved parents and they have the heartfelt sympathy of all. The funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 3 at 10:00 am at the M.E. Church, the Rev. C.C. Swartz officiating. A very impressive funeral sermon was preached from the 4th Chapter and 16th verse of Hebrews after which the remains were interred in the Exeter cemetery. The house is deserted and silent, the clock seeming softly to say, 'how cheerless it is and how lonely, for our darling is taken away'.

Of this union were born two children, Zeola Arlene, born Oct. 8, 1891 and a son who was buried in the same casket with his mother. As a member of the Masonic and Odd Fellows orders he was held in high appreciation; and it can be safely said no one more fully valued the advantages derived thereof often speaking in highest praise and thankfulness of his "brothers". Being a great reader and having a retentive memory, his mind was stored with useful knowledge; but as nothing is lost, we know that he is the more fully prepared to enter into the duties of the great beyond.

Roberts on July 27, 1890 and died at Albany, Wis., April 5, 1897. It has been said by her parents and most intimate friends that at a very early age Carrie gave evidence of a superior mind and a wonderful attachment to the church and religious sentiment. It can be said of her "that from a child she hath known the Scriptures". After she joined the church she became more earnest, and devoted to the cause of Christ. She possessed that broad Christian charity "that thinketh no evil" but could discern the divine in every human soul; and that it needed the touch of the infinite to develop the divine and to give it the ascendancy. She will be greatly missed in the church. She was also an earnest worker in the Epworth League. In society she was an acknowledged leader and greatly prized. Her home life was most beautiful and lovely. God gave her a beautiful child, upon whom she lavished all the love of a true mother's heart. Dear little Shirley will be tenderly cared for by loved ones. Mrs. Roberts was an affectionate wife who loved her home and succeeded inmaking it a joyous and happy one. During her illness she suffered greatly yet not a murmur ever escaped her lips. She often said "I am ready when God calls me". She sweetly fell asleep in Jesus on the 5th inst. The funeral took place from the home on the 7th inst. conducted by the Rev. C.C. Swartz. She leaves a husband and one child, father, mother and four sisters who deeply mourn her death, but whom we hope "will meet again beyond the river". C.C.S.

    3. Hey List, I am interested in obtaining information on George Richards King and his family. George was born on August 24, 1844 in Mt. Morris, New York. His father was Hesden Pryor King who died in Jordan, Green, Wisconsin on July 1, 1866. Charles Francis King, Hesden's youngest son was born in Jordan, Green, Wisconsin on October 4, 1861. Apparently, Hesden had a farm in Jordan, because after George mustered out of the Union army, he returned to Green County with his wife, Mariah Campbell King. George and Mariah had two children born in Green County, Charles W. King was born on August 15, 1866 and George Thomas King was born on January 21, 1868. I would like to find some proof that George R. and his family were indeed in Green County during this time period. I would also like to find out more information on Charles W. King. I would like to thank the list in advance for any assistance that may be provided. Vern King Jacksonville, NC

This sweet, tender flower had only been blooming in the shadowy vale called life for about four months and ten days, when it was suddenly plucked and planted on the verdant shores of the River of Life, flowing down through the gardens of heaven, by the Father who giveth and taketh away. Frankie had his mission and work to do; this fulfilled he was borne on the snowy pinions of an angel to a home beyond the skies and to the bosom of God. On, sorrowing father and mother, think not of little Frankie as in the cold and lonely tomb, but with a crown of immortality and a song of praise waiting by the pearly gates of the heaven for mama and papa. Think, too, of the trouble and sorrow he has missed, of the rugged pathways of life, of its jagged stones and crude mountains, its heart rending trials, and mourn not that he has left you, but let his death be a tie binding you forever to heaven, and rejoice that forever through the endless ages of eternity, he is safe, for: Ere sin could blight or sorrow fade; Death came with friendly care; The opening bud to heaven conveyed, and bade it blossom there.

Seldom has it been our duty to report an event so sad as the death of W.H. Knapp. Well known and beloved by all, an earnest Christian, in the fullest sense of the word, a thorough, honest businessman in all his dealings, no man in this community would be as greatly missed by all of us as he. W.H. Knapp was born in Grant Co., Wisc. on May 16, 1854. His father being a merchant, much of his youth was spent in a store, where he laid the foundation for a successful business career. He taught school 11 years in Grant Co., giving the best possible satisfaction. He was married to Miss Dorleska J. Bonham of Grant Co. April 20, 1875, who with two young daughters are left to mourn the loss of an unusually kind and affectionate husband and father, and whose grief is almost more than they can bear. In the fall of 1881, Mr. Knapp came to this place and engaged in the mercantile business, under the firm name of W. H. Knapp & Co. and built up a large and constantly increasing trade, having at the time of his death three storerooms and employing four clerks. He wsa a active, working member of the M.E. Church, and for years has been superintendent of the Sunday school and was always a leader in all charitable movements, both public and private. In all his wide circle of acquaintances there is not one who will speak an evil word against his stainless character. The cause of his death was scarlet fever, augmented by other causes, and as for sanitary reasons it was deemed best not to have a public funeral, the interment took place Monday night at 10:00. Memorial services will be held at the M.E. Church next Sunday morning at 10:30. Words fail to express the sorrow of the whole community at this sudden bereaavement, not one of whom but feels that a brother is lost to them. Besides the grief-stricken wife and children, the deceased leaves a mother, five brothers and one sister and many other relatives to mourn a life-long loss, to whom the heartfelt sympathy of all is extended.
