    2. Robert L Webb
    3. Dear List members, We have now completed eighty Illinois County Family History Links on our website. We will make further updates as we receive more church records, which is a constant ongoing task. We are now in the process of entering the same type of data, church history and family surnames of members information, for counties in Iowa and Wisconsin, and have already entered the information we have for the county lists we are sending this message to. We have the research either complete or well underway for Nebraska, Kansas, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, but in Missouri, Kentucky, and Indiana, we have a great deal more original research work to do, and will appreciate help from anyone who knows of the existence of Primitive Baptist church records or membership lists for those states. Here are the website addresses: Our main homepage (with links to research completed and/or in progress for several states): http://www.carthage.lib.il.us/community/churches/primbap/pbl.html Or, for Iowa and/or Wisconsin counties, go directly to: Or, for Illinois counties, go directly to: http://www.carthage.lib.il.us/community/churches/primbap/FamHist.html Best wishes, Elder Robert Webb The Primitive Baptist Library Carthage, Illinois ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! 3. I have just learned that my great-grandmother, Telitha Wilis (who married Tom Kellar Pierce of Crawford Co., PA) was born in Green Co., WI. I have her parents names and the names of her siblings, but would like to get more information if anyone has such. I do not know her marriage date (it was about 1861, I believe) and I think she and my ggf might have been married in WI and have lived in WI for at least a short time after their marriage. She was living in Crawford Co., PA, by the time of the 1870 census. Are there marriage records for this period? How can I get birth records? My gf, their son William Solomon Pierce, was born in WI in 1866. Are birth records available? Thanks for any help. Regards, Linda Pierce Moore

    3. Monticello will be having their big summer celebration this weekend. As part of that celebration the MAHS (Monticello Area Historical Society) will be having an open house in the Drug Store "Peek at the Past". They will be open 10 AM - 4 PM on Saturday, July 7 and 12:00 PM - 4 PM on Sunday, July 8. They will be selling popcorn and probably ice cream cones as a small fund raising effort. Visitors may see some of the artifacts that will be in the display cabinets and can see how much work still has to be done to create a museum. The original Drizzle book (http://www.monticellowi.com/TITLEP~1.HTM) will be there for sale as well as the new "To You Who Answered the Call" Drizzle Photo Supplement. The Drizzle is $20.00 per copy and the new book is $30.00. All proceeds from the book sales go to support the activities of the Monticello Area Historical Society. In addition to being on sale at the drug store, the new book can be purchased at the Bank of Monticello and the M&M Café. If you won't be in Monticello and would like to have your own copy of either of these books, add $3.00 for postage and handling for orders that are mailed. You can order directly by calling 938-4602 or writing to: Roger Dooley, 231 S. Garfield, Monticello, WI, 53570. Checks should be made out to MAHS or Monticello Area Historical Society. Or if you prefer to order through the historical society you can write to: Monticello Area Historical Society, P.O. Box 463, Monticello, WI., 53570. The book is 8 1/2 x 11", soft-cover, 338 pages. It contains photos of 114 of Monticello's WW-2 veterans as well as additional photos provided by the veterans or their families. The text ranges from the prison camp diary of Harold Babler, memoirs of various other vets, clippings from the Monticello Messenger and in some cases excerpts from the original Drizzle book. Kim Tschudy from New Glarus will also be there on Saturday signing and selling copies of his new railroad book. 1. Hesden Pryor King
    2. Vern King
    3. Hey List, I am looking for information on Hesden Pryor King and his family and I am hoping that someone on this list will be able to assist me. Hesden Pryor King was born on September 11, 1812 in Suffield, Hartford, Connecticut and he died on July 1, 1866 in Jordan, Green, Wisconsin. In a newspaper article I received that was dated in 1908, it states that Hesden and his wife Minerva and their five (5) sons went to Wisconsin in 1858 and settled on a farm in Jordan. It was in Jordan that the sixth (6) son was born, Charles F. King. My 2nd great grandfather, George Richards King was the oldest of the six (6) King boys. George enlisted in the Wisconsin 31st Infantry on November 10, 1862 and mustered out on May 12, 1865. He returned to Jordan, Green County after stopping in Kane County, Illinois to get married to Mariah Campbell. George and Mariah had two (2) boys while they lived in Jordan, Charles W. King and George T. King. It was sometime after the birth of George and the birth of their daughter Minerva in 1870 that they migrated down into Nebraska. My quest is to find confirming evidence that Hesden and his family were in Jordan, Green County during this time period. I would also like to confirm that George Richards King and his family were there also during this period. Is there someone or somewhere I can contact to confirm this information? Does someone have a copy of the 1860 Federal Census for Green County that could help me? Is there a genealogical society I could contact for this information. I would like to thank the list in advance for their patience and any assistance available. Vern King Jacksonville, NC

Wi Obituaries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Wi/GreenObits/10624 Surname: Smith ------------------------- On the last day of March, Mrs. Phoebe Smith, living about seven miles west from here, started from her home to go to a neighbors, and as she was in the habit of going to neighbors and remaining sometime she was not missed--those at her home thinking she was at the neighbors and they not knowing she had started. On Sunday morning last, however, it was found she had not reached her destination and a search was immediately started to discover her whereabouts. In a short time her body was found lying face down in the snow, to one side of a unfrequented road. It is supposed she died of heart disease, as her money and some notes were found on her untouched. FAMILY TREE FINDERS Wednesday - 6 June 2001 Family History TV? Make Your Vote Count As a researcher, I am always on the look out for new Web sites, books, or other media that is designed to educate fellow researchers and myself. My children say I am a frustrated teacher, I say I am an "unsatisfied student." I enjoy genealogy because I am always learning. Last year I brought to your attention a new company, The Studio, that was beginning to produce video tapes on genealogy subjects, many of them on the computer uses currently available to researchers. To date they have produced more than twenty genealogy and family history videos in the last thirteen months, many of them by national experts. For more on these videos, be sure to check out their web site (www.123genealogy.com). Inside sources tell me that additional videos will be released in the next few months. Some of the videos recently released have included some non-technical subjects, looking at more traditional aspects of genealogical research. As you know the National Genealogical Society just concluded the NGS 2001 Conference in the States, held in Portland, Oregon. I know that I enjoyed the conference, though I spent most of the time working. However, during this recent conference, crews from The Studio conducted interviews with experts in attendance and documented some of the conference, including the vendor area, where there were some great new products. The Studio, Inc., a creative media production facility, and producer Stephen Lemmon intend to develop a television series dealing with the subject of Family History. In my conversations with The Studio, and my dealings with them and the producer in working on the video tapes I did for them lately, I know that when they set their mind to doing something, it gets done. In fact, I was asked to host a segment for the pilot of this series. We recorded the segments while at the conference. In fact, as we were recording those segments, there were many intrigued by the goings on as we had microphones, cameras, and different locations while filming. Right now The Studio is looking for input from genealogists. They have posted a short survey on their new Web site. This survey is intended to gather information about whether or not people are interested in having a series devoted to family history. Let me assure you that they are not collecting any personal data or e-mail addresses in some sort of a marketing ploy. The survey asks six questions, dealing with your interest in such a series, what you would like to see in such a series, and finally how you access television programs (so they know how many have cable or satellite access). If you would like to see a television series devoted to family history, please take a moment and fill out the short on-line survey at http://www.familyhistory.tv/survey Now is your chance to stand up and be counted. I know from your many e-mail messages that you are all interested in family history and its many varied aspects. By taking this survey, you can voice your support for a television program that would bring this to you. 2. Donna Kjendlie
    3. Of interest to genealogical researchers in the area. This is not intended as spam but as an educational announcement. It is not our intention to offend anyone. The Walworth County Genealogical society has announced it will be holding an educational workshop on Saturday, the 18th of August at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Elkhorn. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Michael John Neill of Rio, Illinois, national lecturer, author, writer, columnist and instructor will be the featured speaker. He will be presenting four lectures for this day-long seminar. Two of the lectures are regarding land records: NSEW: Terminology, Applications & Implications in Public Land States" and Techniques for Land Records in Public Land States." Another lecture discusses records relating to a death which are invaluable to a genealogical researcher: "Getting the Body in the Grave: Funeral Homes, Mortuaries and Cemeteries." If you have trouble finding the village an ancestor came from, Neill will lecture on: "Finding That Village of Origin: A Generalized Study." Neill is an instructor at the Genealogical Institute of Mid-America (GIMA) held annually in Springfield, Illinois and is also on the faculty of Carl Sandburg College. He is a Web Columnist for the FGS Forum and is on the editorial board of the Illinois State Genealogical Society Quarterly. He conducts seminars and lectures on a wide variety of genealogical and computer topics. He contributes to several genealogical publications, including Ancestry and Genealogical Computing. You can visit his Website at www.rootdig.com. The cost of the workshop is $25.00 and includes a luncheon of sandwiches, salads and beverages provided by the ladies' church group. The registration deadline is 1 August. After 1 August, the cost will be $30.00 with no lunch guarantee. No cancellations will be returned after 1 August. A genealogical vendor will be present to purchase any books, maps, preservation supplies and novelty items. WCGS publications will also be made available for sale. Door prizes will be given away, however, you must be present to receive them. If anyone wishes to donate a door prize, please contact Peggy Gleich at [email protected] or John Stevenson at 262-728-3719. 2. Re: King Query. Someone else has responded to this so I am coming in with personal anecdote. I went to NARA several years ago and found that my ancestor from Green County was not in the Federal records. I was referred to the state records which I have not pursued. Of course, it was disappointing after waiting quite a while (didn't seem like 3-4 months at that time). This message inspires me to get back on that track because of all the info found. You might try both resources though and see what you get instead of waiting for reference to the other.
