    1. Green Co., WI list
    2. Ben R Moore
    3. Dear Lisa, I saw your note but didn't recognize any of your surnames. My ggf Tom Kellar Pierce (born in PA) married Telitha Willis (born in Green Co., WI) about 1864 or so. Their son William Simpson Pierce was (I think) born in Green Co., WI, in 1866. Are any marriage records or birth records of the 1860's on file anywhere? Thanks, Linda [email protected]

    1. Saving Governor's Island in NY for a memorial
    2. Donna Kjendlie
    3. The email below is what I have sent on to the Governor of New York. Please read it all and if you agree, please send a few personal notes of your own. This would make a beautiful place for Americans to pay their respects. Donna Below is an email letter from Richard Eastman expressing the view of many genealogists around the country. I would like to add my name to the "petition if you will" for creating a memorial on this island. Thank you and God Bless New York and God Bless America! Donna Kjendlie Governor George E. Pataki State Capitol Albany, NY 12224 [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> Dear Governor Pataki: In these trying times following the deaths of thousands of people in New York and elsewhere on September 11, I know that you are very busy managing the state's rescue and recovery activities. However, I am sure that both the State of New York and the U.S. Federal Government will deem it appropriate to construct a memorial to the people who perished on that day. I respectfully submit that Governor's Island in New York Harbor would be an appropriate place for such a memorial. If you agree, immediate action is necessary. Governor's Island presently is for sale by the Federal Government and might even be sold to a private developer next month if action is not taken now. The federally owned island might be sold to the highest bidder in October and lost to the public forever. Many plans have been mentioned, including a casino or high-rise luxury apartments. Most of the rumored plans eliminate public access. Governor's Island is close to the location where the largest number of people perished. Millions of New York residents and visitors could easily access this location. This land is available today in an area where land is at a premium. It could be a peaceful place where people could go to contemplate the horrors and the meanings of this month's tragedy:, to remember those who lost their lives, to honor those who worked to save lives and recover the city, and to rekindle their own commitment to the preservation of our nation. I strongly suggest the State of New York or the U.S. Federal Government or both construct an appropriate memorial on Governor's Island. Regards, Richard Eastman

Because of the catastrophe that happened in the United States Tuesday, 11 Sept., 2001, MyFamily.com (RootsWeb.com and Ancestry.com) has created a special Message Board for those who wish to express or share condolences, sorrow, prayers, and thoughts for the victims, their families and friends. However, this is not a board for discussion on how the U.S. should resolve this issue or about how the search for those responsible is going. 1. Green County Genealogical Society meeting
    2. Lori
    3. "Preservation Of Old Documents" will be the title of the program given by Donna Long Kjendlie a the September 1 meeting of the newly formed Green County Genealogical Society. The meeting will be held in the Monroe Public Library, 925 16th Ave., at 1pm in the Community Room on the second floor. Ms. Kjendlie has been researching family history for over 25 years, has given programs in Southern Wisconsin on several subjects, and has taught genealogical classes on many levels. Ms. Kjendlie has also compiled indexes to books of interest to Green County. She will present ideas for preserving old documents and demonstrate how to unroll and encapsulate them. Other artifacts such as textiles, dolls, quilts, etc. will also be discussed. Most importantly is that any process that is used to preserve artifacts should also be able to be reversed. Other preservation methods such as storing textiles and old photos will also be covered. Members and guests are asked to bring documents, artifacts, and questions that can be used for discussion. Bring photos or descriptions if the artifact is too precious or too large to travel. The meeting is open to the public. Election of officers will be on the agenda as the genealogical society prepares their business for the following year. On the slate for nominations are John Dundee, Brodhead, President; Donna Long Kjendlie, Beloit, Vice President; Michelle Anderson, Monroe, Recording Secretary; Peggy Gleich, Janesville, Corresponding Secretary; Susie Hillison, Monroe, Treasurer. Nominations are open and members are encouraged to volunteer for offices and committees. Refreshments and social hour will follow. 1. GONYO & CAREY of Berlin, WI: 1850 - 1900
    2. Looking for descendants of Clara GONYO, daughter of John Gonyo & Florence LaRiviere of Berlin, WI. Clara was born around 1850 and married Richard CAREY, son of William Carey of Auroraville, around 1870. Their first child, Richard Jr. was born Feb. 6, 1872. Other children were born later [some of the women identified by their married names, taken from obituaries as stated under the newspaper practices at the time], named Ella, Margaret, Mrs. Forest Hill, Mrs. John Baker, and sons James and John. Richard Carey Sr. was born in Albany, NY in 1839, and he and his brother James Joseph operated one of the largest cranberry growing operations in the State in the 1870's & 80's. Clara and Richard moved to IL as they grew older and lived with some of their children--- Clara died in 1919 in Chicago and Richard in 1920, and they are buried in Calvary Cemetery in Evanston, IL. I seek to locate any information on the births, baptisms, marriages, and/or deaths of any of Clara & Richard's children or any of their descendants. Clara and Richard were married in one of the Catholic Churches in Berlin and their children would also be Catholic. Any and all responses much appreciated. With all good wishes and thanks in advance, Jim Carey Washington, DC Great Nephew of Clara GONYO & Richard CAREY [Richard's brother James Joseph was my Grandfather]

    1. Reunion
    2. Perhaps for the reunion you could offer to pix of old main streets, groups of school children, and old family pix on a big bulletin board. You could even have people vote their favorite, or the most amusing, most telling, etc. You wouldn't have to post the originals, you could copy them at your local copy store. Also might find someone to bring a scanner and scan pix in exchange for being allowed to post them on the website. Just a couple of ideas. Old maps are good, too. Best, Laura
