    1. John BRIDGE 1836-1855 in Green Co WI
    2. Rick DCamp
    3. Hello Green County genealogists! I am new to your list and am looking for any "legal" documentation connecting John Bridge, who lived in the Monroe, WI area from 1836 until his death in 1855 (which was actually occurred in Ohio where he was visiting a friend). My ancestral line would run through the marriage of his daughter Matilda to Joel DeCamp. I have a wonderful manuscript history from the library in Platteville of this family which states each of his children by name, including Matilda. However, I have not been able to find any actual historical documentation which confirms this. In the histories of Green County there is no mention of Matilda, but that Joel DeCamp joined the Bridges in Green County when they left Ohio in 1836. I have documentation that "Matilda Bridge married Joel DeCamp" in 1826 in Preble Co. Ohio. John Bridge wrote a will in Green County, which the manuscript I have says is in the court house in Monroe. I am assuming this document would name Matilda as a descendant, but I won't know until I see it. Has anyone seen any other documentation like this, which would confirm the relationship between Matilda and John Bridge? Is anyone connected to this list maybe also related to the John Bridges of "New Jersey, Ohio and Wisconsin?" Many thanks in advance! Sincerely, Rick DCamp Dr. Richard M. 3. Earlier this year I bought an old photo album in Monticello. Most of the pictures have no names on them. Most of the photographers are from Pecatonica, Freeport, Rockford, IL and Monroe, WI. They might be from the Chesebro family which lived between Monticello and Monroe. I have scanned them and added them to my Green County website. Take a look and let us know if you can identify any of them. http://www.monticellowi.com/GreenCo/Ancestors/Album/Album.htm Lori [email protected] Green County, WI Genealogy http://www.monticellowi.com/GreenCo/ Monticello, WI http://www.monticellowi.com

    1. Rice Family / Monroe, Green Co.
    2. Lee Berman
    3. Hi listers! I have a "Children of the American Revolution" pin which we found in my gr-gr-great-grandmother's things after she died and we think that since she lived in Monroe, Green Co. Wis. most of her 91 years that it came from someone there! The pin has the name NANNIE B. RICE on it and the 4-digit number 5466. My ggg-grandmother was Elizabeth GORMAN DOLAN GRANT, b. 1852 in Troy, New York, to John and Jemima GORMAN, and moved with her family to Monroe as a young girl. She married John DOLAN, son of Patrick and Ann DOLAN, in 1870 and they farmed in Monroe until his death in 1920. She then married Jonas B. GRANT (a neighbor) and they moved to California in about 1930. She died in 1938 and is buried in the Old Calvary Cemetery in Monroe. Does anyone know how she might be connected to the RICE family or who Nannie B RICE is? I have already asked the DAR about the pin but they couldn't tell me anything. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated! Thank You! Kathy ! Olden Berman

    3. The State Historical Society of Wisconsin http://www.shsw.wisc.edu/ has an excellent online site with lots of help: 1. Online catalog 2. Online orders for pre-1907 birth, death, marriage records (modest charges) 3. Genealogy site for other useful information 4. Online Civil War roster of all WI veterans They are extremely helpful, however be sure to include a SASE with your inquiry. A small donation doesn't hurt, either. Online requests are also filled quite promptly assuming you give them accurate info. Many of the newspapers are on microfilm for ILL orders through your local library. Etc. Regards, Ellen Bisson

    3. The Green County, WI list now has 89 members (62 list, 27 digest, some might be on both). It seems that there are some people wanting to know where to find information in Green County. Where do you find old obituaries? The Monroe Library has available on microfilm: Monroe Sentinel: May 14, 1841 - May 13, 1911 Monroe Evening Times: Jan. 3, 1899 - 2000 And of course the State Historical Society in Madison, WI has a much larger collection. http://www.shsw.wisc.edu/library/ Do the other Green County Libraries have old newspapers? Do the newspaper businesses keep old newspapers that are available to the public? Has anyone had experiences at sending for them? Where? On my website there are some obituaries that people have typed and sent to me: http://www.monticellowi.com/GreenCo/NewsClippings.htm Where do you find census records? The Monroe Library has available on microfilm: Green County Census: 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1905, 1910, 1920 And of course again the State Historical Society in Madison, WI has them also. Birth, Marriage and Death records: Green County Courthouse, Monroe, WI http://www.monticellowi.com/GreenCo/courthouse.htm On the page below I have collected the information from the Green County Courthouse for the surname HOLLOWAY: http://www.monticellowi.com/GreenCo/Ancestors/Holloway/HollowayVitalsG.h tm This could be done and put on the internet for more families. Any volunteers? Has anyone had any luck with church records or cemetery records? What other places do you use to get your information for Green County? This list will only be as good as what you make it. Let's have some discussion! Lori [email protected] http://www.monticellowi.com/GreenCo/

    2. <<Are any marriage records or birth records of the 1860's on file anywhere?>> You may want to check at your local LDS Family History center. They have the "Wisconsin Index to registrations of marriage 1852-1907". Additionally they have the marriage license films from Green county that date back to 1838. Diane P. Kriese [email protected]

    2. Well, I am on this list, but did not recognize any names or have any substantially helpful information. I, too, have many questions regarding Green County, Wisconsin. Hence the reason I joined the list. My first problem is that I have not found any birth certificates for any of my relatives anywhere in the Green County Birth indexes. I am starting to believe that no one reported births. However, I have been successful in finding marriage licenses (using films requested from the Latter Day Saints). Now, here is my question: Is there any church records in existence?? All of my relatives are Lutheran and I have not found any indication of microfilmed church records. In fact, I do not even know church names. I am also interested in obituaries too. However, no one seems to have these archived anywhere either that I have seen. I'm sorry I could not help you. Hopefully the answers will materialize soon. Diane P. Kriese [email protected] Names researching in Green County: GORDEE, WELLS, ISAACSON, BENSON and RICKETT
