I've "rescued" an old photograph of Mr. & Mrs. Charles MILBRANDT of Monticello, WI. They are also noted as the foster parents of Walter TOPPLE and Pearl RITTER. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's early 1900's with the couple likely in their 20's at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this couple: Charles William MILBRANDT was b. 10 Oct 1874 in Monticello, WI to parents August Ferdinand MILBRANDT (1838-1924) and Wilhelmine or Wilheimina Louise "Minnie" LUPKE or STRECKER (1840-1922). Charles was one of 10 children born to this couple including, Ottilie Louise Wilhelmine; Wilhelm or William Frank or Franz August Herrmann; August Friedrich Franz William; Emile or Emilie or Amelia Marie Augusta Ernestino or Ernestine; Anna Auguste or Augusta; Charles William; Julia Marie; Herman August; and Heinrich or Henry August MILBRANDT, all born between 1862 and 1881. Charles appears to have married multiple times including a marriage to Marion H. CLARK (1875-1968) whom he married 20 Nov 1913 in Kent, OH. Charles died 6 Feb 1960 in Watertown, SD and is buried in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Charles had farmed in Wilmot, SD; and in Troy, SD; before coming to Watertown. His obituary lists only one daughter, Mrs. Herbert (Viva) VOLLENDORF of Park Ridge, IL and a brother Herman MILBRANDT of Monroe, WI along with two grandchildren. Another marriage is noted with Minnie MILBRANDT (b. 1877) with whom Charles had 4 children including, Alfred R.; George C.; Gladys E.; and Archie H. MILBRANDT, all born between 1903 and 1910. The last name may have been changed from MILLEBRANDT to MILBRANDT when the family came to America. Pauline Gertrude THOMAS was b. 9 Dec 1879 in Lyons, IA, the daughter of John R. & Mary THOMAS. She married Charles W. MILBRANDT on 19 Oct 1898 and they had a daughter born 6 Sept 1901 at Mount Pleasant, WI who they named Viva Gertrude MILBRANDT. Pauline died 27 Jul 1954 in Richland, MO and is buried in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Richland. Census records provide the following details: 1880 census of Mount Pleasant, WI: August MILBRANDT, age 41, a Farmer, born Prussia, parents born Prussia Minnie MILBRANDT, wife, age 40, Keeping House, born Prussia, parents born Prussia Frank MILBRANDT, son, age 15, a Farmer, born Prussia Amelia MILBRANDT, dau, age 10, at School, born Prussia Augusta MILBRANDT, dau, age 8, born Prussia Charles MILBRANDT, son, age 5, born WI Julia MILBRANDT, dau, age 3, born WI Herman MILBRANDT, son, age 1, born WI Dora LUPKE, mother-in-law, age 63, born Prussia, parents born Prussia 1900 census of Mount Pleasant, WI: Charles MILBRANDT, age 25, born Oct 1874, married 1 year, born WI, parents born Germany, a Farmer Pauline MILBRANDT, wife, age 20, born Dec 1879, married 1 year, no children, born IA, parents born Germany Zachanah THOMAS, sister, age 14, born Jan 1885, born IA, parents born Germany, a Servant Walter TOPPLE, servant, age 7, born Sept 1892, born WI, parents born WI, at School 1910 census of Troy, SD: Charles W. A cousin who has recently discovered me and I are working on trying to determine all the ancestors named Brugger that came over from Switzerland so long ago, and their ancestors in Switzerland. We are having some good luck, but have many questions, because of some possibly incorrect information about the family in Switzerland. We have been told that there were 2 brothers in Innertkirchen, both of whom were born in Frutigen, in Bern, Switzerland. One was Johannes Brugger, married to (and this may be the incorrect information) Rosina Gsteiger. The other brother was Melchior Brugger married to Anna Rohrbach. We have pretty much verified that Melchior and Anna were married and the parents of: Anna, born 1876, emigrated in 1895, married Caspar Alplanalp in NY, moved eventually to Alpena, Michigan Rosa, born 1878, unknown Lina, born 1879, married August Hermann Krust in Switzerland Heinrich, born 1882, emigrated in 1900 to Wisconsin (had 2 wives, we only know of Olena Thompson) Simon, born 1884, evidently stayed in Switzerland Verena, born 1886, emigrated in 1902, first went to Wisconsin, maybe in Kenosha or Green county, then to Alpena, Michigan where she married Fred Behnke Emma, born 1888, emigrated in 1910, was in NY first, then Illinois, then in California, married Carl Gisske Adolf, born 1889, emigrated in 1910, went from NY to WI to ND to ILL to CA. He married Bertha Thompson, who was hospitalized for life. Johannes, born 1897, we believe we have found him in Chicago, Illinois. But we're not sure. People seemed to slip over the boarder into Illinois a lot. The other brother, Johannes, who we think married Susanna Gsteiger had: Arnold, born 1874, may have emigrated in about 1895 to Chicago, Ill. Then he moved to Green county, and lived all over the county. He married Mary Kundert. Bertha, born 1876, died 1898, but may have been in Chicago when she died. Unsure Elise, born 1877, emigrated 1895. Married Andrew Naegeli. Lived in Kenosha, WI Rosa, born 1879, emigrated 1900. Married Emil Mieli. Lived in Chicago, Illinois Johannes, born 1880, emigrated between 1900 and 1902. Unknown who he was with. Married Alma Schadewaldt. Lived in Green county, Wisconsin. Kaspar, born 1882, emigrated in 1900, married Clara Berg. LIved in Green county and Lafayette county, Wisconsin. Margaritha, born 1884, emigrated before 1906, when she had her first child, Alvin Sihler, in Green county, WI. Her next child, Fred. was born in 1910, in Chicago. Not much is known about Margaritha. If anyone has any information about these Bruggers, or their children or grandchildren, we need your help! Myra Herron

Dear Listers, My focus marriage is recorded in Green County 12 Nov 1891. The parties are Fridrich Kunzi and Elisa Kuhni. Can I expect that an 1891 marriage license application would ask for the names of their parents? I realize that blanks are sometimes not filled in, but if the question was asked, I can hope that the blank is filled in. Bingham's 1877 Green County history page 16 states that the Wisconsin legislature convened in Belmont, Iowas County in the fall of 1836 and a petition was drawn up asking for orgainzation of a county withthe limits of the present county of Green and was to be called Richland. Richland being to "matter of fact" it was changed to Green. Page 18 states that by an act of legislature approved January 15th 1838 Green County was fully organized. I've "rescued" an old photograph identified as the children of Bell BOGUE DOGE which was taken at the J. C. Wilson Studio in Cherokee, Iowa. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's with the children appearing to be about infant to 4 years old at the time. In addition to the their Mother's name, someone has also written "She was Uncle Jim BOGUE'S baby when he married Sister Mary WARNER" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this family: James Shiverly BOGUE was b. 4 Aug 1847 in Grant Co. IN to parents Jesse BOGUE (b. 18 Mar 1800 in Greensboro, NC) and Ann Elisa WEBB (b. 15 May 1822). The couple was married on 19 Jun 1840 in Wayne Co. IN and together they had 12 children including, Zachary; John H.; Ruth Jane; Orange Scott; James Shiverly; Catherine; Adaline E.; Gula Elma; Martha; Iowa; Celia; and William Ira BOGUE all born between 1840 and 1858 in Grant Co. IN; Marion, IN; and Fayette Co. IA. Belle BOGUE was the daughter of James Shiverly BOGUE and his first wife, Mary E. FOLSON whom he married on 18 Feb 1869. James' second wife was Mary WARNER (b. 1853) who he married in Strawberry Point, IA in 1872. James and Mary had 5 children including, Minnie B.; Lutie L.; Bert; Grace V.; and Jessie BOGUE. James BOGUE died 15 May 1908 in Newport, NE. Belle BOGUE married Milo DODGE (b. 25 Apr 1866 in Albany, WI) with whom Belle had 7 children including, Grace Irene; Lawrence E.; Letha L.; Mary S.; Blanche E.; Ruth J.; and Harold B. DODGE all born between 1891 and 1910. I am hoping to locate someone from Belle's family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
