    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Thompson, Sheedy Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/lEC.2ACE/488.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: That's great information, thanks. I suspect that the John Thompson you mentioned as having married Lurilda Key (I'd found him mentioned on ancestry.com) is Charles' younger brother. A JohnThompson was mentioned in the mortality schedule of 1860, 26 yrs. He seems to have had 2 children, I think he had a child born after he died. This John I believe is buried in the Union cemetery in Nagle Grant Co. (very near some Thompson land, if not on it). It appears that Charles' father, John Thompson is gone during the 1850 census or dead. An Ann Thompson is mentioned as a Grant Co pensioner in 1883. There is a John T in Grant Co. in the 1840 mining district census. His age and the age of his children seems to be consistent with what I know. Interestingly, there is a William Thompson mentioned as well in another household. According to the 1840 info, John T had 2 sons 15-19 years old, too old for my Charles T, but my hunch is one of them is Robert T who is on the BLM land deed with Charles in Patch Grove. I don't know anything about what happened to Robert later nor do I have any hunch as to who the other teenage boy could be. There are 2 boys listed as being 5-9 which fits well with Charles (9) and John jr (6). As far as the ND connection goes. Yes that is my Charles Thompson and his children. They stayed in the Wahpeton area, Charles and many of his children are buried there. My hunch is that the John Sr. came to the area to farm while his relative, William (brother?) came to work in the lead mines. I haven't found any leads on the Sheedy family in the area. Do you find any mention of them in the census books? Also, I saw in some "Grant History" index that there are some Thompsons mentioned so I'm eager to get my hands on that book to read. Thanks again for the census info. It seems that with each answer, 5 more questions are created. Have a great day, Jay
