Townships do not go away, they are a geographical entity. They are usually 36 square miles of land which may be all rural or there may be some settlement(town) within their borders. Towns or cities may dry up and cease to exist but the township remains because the land remains. Liberty township is just Northeast of the county seat and is still there. Stitzer MAY have dwindled to a small settlement and no longer be qualified to be called a town, but the township will remain.
