Kathleen, Possibly a few more break-thru's below. Here is what the Grant Co. Census seems to have about William J. and William H. Winney. 1850 Census, District No. 24, Grant, WI, Page 71, 19 Sep 1850, Household 1029 William J. Winney, 28, Farmer, NY Ann E., 22, MO William H., 4, WI Ann E., 2, WI 1860 Census, Glen Haven, Grant, WI, Pg. 175, 27 Jun 1860, Household 532 William Winney, 37, Farmer, $4000, $2000, NY Ann E., 32, VA William H., 15, Farm Laborer, WI Terr. But, since they had no boys in the home, he may have been working on their farm. 14 was about manhood back then. Per the Grant County, WI marriage records: William J. Winney married Ann Eliza Blessing, 23 Oct 1845. Recorded in Sp. Book A, Pg. 27. Book A are the very earliest marriages recorded in the county. No parents are recorded for the couple. Per the Grant County, WI death records, transcribed by Kathleen Wolfe: Anna Eliza "Spinney", nee Blessing, age 82, married to "Mr." "Spinney", died 30 Apr 1909. Recorded in Book 13, Pg. 470. Anna Eliza is recorded as the daughter of John and Eliza (Wolfe) Blessing. This is most certainly a typo by the transcriber of the death records or by the clerk in the courthouse. This has to be Anna Eliza (Blessing) Winney as further confirmed below. Per "Highlights of the Times Review, alias Fennimore Times, 1900-1909," compiled by Cheryl D. Lemanski: Winney, Anna Eliza Blessing, married to William Winney, died 30 Apr 1909. Also listed in the [obit] is William Winney married Anna E. Blessing 25 Oct 1842. Recorded in the 19 May 1909 issue of the Times. Winney, Mrs. William, [of?] Cedar Rapids, NE. Daughter [is?] Mrs. M. Scott of Glen Haven. Recorded in the 9 Sep 1908 issue of the Times. With a nice letter, self addressed stamped envelope, and a couple dollar donation for copy costs, you can probably get a copy of each of these items in the Fennimore Times by writing (or e-mailing) the Fennimore Library: Dwight T. Parker Public Library 955 Lincoln Ave. Fennimore, WI 53809 608-822-6294 Director: Trudie Freymiller (parker9@grant.tds.net) This seems to be William J. Winney in 1880. I presume A. C. is actually A.
