    3. Kathleen, If Elizabeth (Taylor) Winney was born in Wisconsin before 1876, there won't be a birth certificate. Depending on when she died, there may not be a death certificate either. Before 1907, all vital records are basically hit and miss. Marriages seem to be the most complete. Per the Grant Co. WI marriage records: William H. Winney married Sarah Elizabeth Taylor, 25 Feb 1869, recorded in Grant Co. Book 4, Page 194. William is recorded as the son of William J. and Ann Eliza (Unknown) Winney. Sarah Elizabeth as the daughter of Jonathan and Mary Ann (Unknown) Taylor. This record is available for $7 from the Grant Co. Courthouse in Lancaster. As you can see, "Sarah Elizabeth" is the name on her marriage certificate. But her father looks to be Jonathan. However, there are known to be many errors even in vital records. For Jonathan, he has me stumped. I can't locate him in 1860 Grant Co. Wisconsin, nor in 1870. Per "Memorable Happenings in the Grant Co. Herald, 1943-1869," compiled by Cheryl D. Lemanski: E. Taylor married William H. Winney, 2? Feb 1869, Patch Grove Twp., recorded in the 2 Mar 1869 issue of the Herald. I've looked though my resources, but can't seem to find anything more on these two.
