    3. Apparently I'm not supposed to ask questions about FTM on this list. I'm new to genealogy and I didn't realize that we had to stick to surnames only. Everyone on this list seems so helpful that I thought it would be a good place to start. Sorry. By the way, what does Rural Route 1 popcorn have to do with genealogy? ===== Researching Surnames - BAEHR, BELLAMY, CASHMAN, DARLING, HOLFORD, KREUL, MILLER, MONTGOMERY, PIERCE, ROESCH, WILKE. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 3. The reason that I posted the request that the software questions be done at the software boards, or the software list, is because there IS a list for that particular area of concern. Yes, it is genealogy related to a degree, but there ARE lists specifically for them. At 09:00 PM 2/19/02 , Tammie Shelton wrote: >Apparently I'm not supposed to ask questions about FTM >on this list. No need to apologize......that's the reason I posted the explanation. I didn't say that it had to be surnames ONLY that come through this list. Burials, cemeteries, anything related to the county and anyone's ancestors are acceptable. This doesn't necessarily mean JUST a surname. It can go beyond that, and has. It was a good place to start, in that at least you got the information that there is another list and board where the question can be asked. One reason that I request that the software questions remain on the lists provided for them, is because more often than not, software questions end up in a battle over which program is better.......a never ending battle, because everyone works differently, everyone has their own preferences, and no one software is perfect for everyone. I don't want any wars waged on any of my lists. :) >By the way, what does Rural Route 1 popcorn have to do >with genealogy? Nothing. Popcorn has nothing to do with genealogy at all..........and that's just one of the reasons that I ended that topic also. It was off topic, and I did comment on it.......but if you have been admin for a while, you will soon learn that sometimes it works to comment, and then the topic dies. That didn't happen, so I ended it by asking that it not be discussed anymore. I'm sorry you took offense at my directive.....It was in no way meant as a personal affront.........it was informational for you just as it was for the the whole list. Nothing more, nothing less. I'd not had a post about software since I took over this list, and it was needful for me to make known my preferences regarding the topic. As list admin,. I have the perogative to set the limitations or criteria for the lists I admin. I'm pretty liberal and congenial for the most part. I very seldom make requests of this nature, and neither am I in the habit of trying to embarrass any subscriber, no matter what their level of expertise is. Especially those who are new to genealogy. Anyone who has known me for very long can attest to my consistent support for the Newbies. I've been a staunch supporter of them from day one. Again........I apologize for apparently making you feel put upon. That certainly was not the intention.
