    1. [WIGRANT] Re: Atwood / Wentworth Marriage and 1860 Census lookup
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/lEC.2ACE/371.1 Message Board Post: Shelly, There is a John F. ATWOOD on the 1860 census for Fennimore (listed after Lancaster) on page #146 (indexer's number), census page #44. Film# M653_1409 7 July 1860 Grant County, WI, Fennimore, PO Fennimore Lines 17-24, Dwelling & Family #322 John F. ATWOOD 38 M Farmer RE$1,000 Property$225 b. Maine Sarah A. " 37 F " Lucy J. 11 F born IL Ellen F. 9 F WI Martha A. 6 F WI Charles A. 4 M WI George A. 2 M WI Alonzo R. VONN? 13 M WI (Not sure on the first letter of last name for Alonzo. Looked to see if it could be "Dow" but both the "D" and "w" would have to be so poorly written, I doubt it. There were no other capital V or D to compare.) Since Alonzo is listed last and has no profession listed, he may be a child from a previous marriage for Sarah, or a nephew. None of the neighboring families are Vonn. Only a couple persons nearby are from NY--one woman from the immediate next door family--Armida Hyde, and two families down, Wm. E. Smith. There is a John Atwood listed 1860 in Hazel Green p.224 (index #): Grant County, WI. Hazel Green PO; page 8. Lines 13-14; Dwelling 58, Family 62. John ATWOOD; age 70; Male; Merchant; RealEstate $800; Personal 1,500; Born MA Laura " 54; F; Born Maine The 2 both have folks from Maine, & there is a George W. WENTWORTH, age 36, & a Lorenzo Wentworth, age 28 in 1850 Orrington, Penobscot County, Maine (no Louisa or Lousia with either). Another observance: Next to the Fennimore ATWOOD, is the family of (Tausman?) LOWELL from Ohio, and very near the family of Geo Wentworth in Maine, are two Lowell families--Nathaniel & James. Don't know if it's just a coincidence of common names or a clue. Perhaps ordering the marriage record would provide more specifics. Those early records are often scant on details or one sided (the person filing the info's side of family). The info in the usual marriage indexes is what you already know. The original record might be the only source that would unveil more. Good luck in your search for Louisa! KinD
