    1. [WIGRANT] 1870 mortality index

    3. Anyone familiar with this? The 1870 census was supposed to enumerate people as of 1 June 1870. My gr-grandfather is not listed on it and I've been working under the premise that he was dead by that time. I got a copy of the 1870 mortality index and there is a name that could possibly be him (except for the age) and it says he died in June. Is this June 1869 or June 1870? I suppose I should look at the actual mortality schedule instead of this index and double-check that age. It says "20" but someone wrote "(5)" in pencil in front of it and I don't know what that's supposed to mean. He would have been about 47 in 1870. Robin
