    1. [WIGRANT] VanTuylTaylor/Wilsey
    2. Thanks to everyone who answered my plea and sent some info. I thought this would be the best way to answer all of you, so if you aren't connected with these families, please delete this now. 1. Is there a Pioneer certificate from the county, itself? I would rather have that than one from the state if there is. 2. Elizabeth Van Tuyl TAYLOR divorced her husband in PA in 1847 and moved to Grant Co., with her five children, and her oldest daughter Lydia (Taylor) WILSEY, her husband Jabez and their two small children. The moved was between June 1851 when her father who had been living with her died and Jan 1853 when Jabez WILSEY Jr. was born in WI. 3. ELizabeth had several older sisters who married and moved to IL, but I don't know of anyone in MI. Van Tuyl isn't a very "spread out" or prolific name, so they probably are related to the immigrant Otto VAN TUYL who came to N.Y. about 1660 and owned a lot of property there and in N.J. 4. I don't know of an Allen TAYLOR, but Noah and Amanda TAYLOR were her brother and sister-in-law and they, too are buried in the Dodge Cemetery, close to Elizabeth, her son, Alexander and grandson Jabez WILSEY, JR. 5. They moved after Elizabeth's father died in June 1851 in Tunkhannock, PA. I don't know how soon or where they stopped (Maybe in IL. to visit with her sisters), but they were in Grant Co., where Jabez JR., was born in Jan 1853. He died in Sept 1853 and is the one buried next to Elizabeth in Dodge. 6. She must have had the property in Bloomington in the late 1850's or early 1860's She rented her house when she couldn't afford to keep it up herself, especially after Lorenzo joined the army in 1861. Her only source of income was her alimony (which she never got) and what her children, principally Lorenzo (died in AndersonvilleGA., Civil War prison in 1864) That's why she tried to get his pension, and those records are in the Nat. ARchives. 7. I spent the day with Mrs. Mumm and Mrs. Hudson in 1979 when we were passing through Grant Co.. They drove me all over the area and showed me most of what was available, and I visited the courthouse the following day, and found Elizabeth's will with the probate and the description of the property, but for some reason, I didn't get the date of the sale to Elizabeth. I don't know who owned the property prior to her buying it, but at the time of probate, it was worth $550.00. 8. I don't know who the McCamish family waas, but the HUDSON children are ELizabeth's grandchildren from Bryron and Melvina (TAYLOR) HUDSON. Who are also buried in Dodge. 9. The William WRIGHT's (Lydia TAYLOR) were also related to Elizabeth. They were her brother and sister-in-law. Lydia was her husband's sister, and they moved to Grant Co in the early 1840's. At least that's the earliest I have land records for them. They too are buried in Dodge. Don't know if any of this helps anyone tell me any more or not. I've corresponded with Mrs. Jentz, and she gave me the info on the Dodge Cem., and Mrs. Mumm has done some things for me, too., although not recently. Please give all the ladies my best wishes. And the same goes to all those who wote to make suggestions. Please let me know about the GRANT CO., certificate. Thanks you all again for your help. Earlene Hutsell OK1WE1@aol.com

Information is available at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wsgs/pioneer.htm The Grant Co. WI Genealogical Society (GCGS) has Pioneer Certificates for settles who arrived in Grant Co. prior to Dec. 31 1898. Those census records alone qualify for that. The cost is $5 per application. I'm not sure if they have a special application or not. Information from the GCGS on their program can be requested from: Joyce Esser (jesser@mhtc.net), 9611 Camel Ridge Road, Cassville WI 53806-9635 I'm not sure if you have to be a member to qualify, but Joyce can provide that information.
