HI: When coming to Grant Co. the Karman Lib. on the UN. Wis. at Platteville is the best place. The court house in Lancaster is the next best followed by the Cunningham Museum also in Lancaster. It is usually closed the phone number is on the door. The Sinnawa convent is another good place if you have Catholic relatives. It is hard to get an appointment. The history room in the Galena Public Library in Galena, Il. In the early days this was the cultural center. This is a 20-30 minute drive from Platteville. In the other direction Dodgeville and Minneral Point in Iowa Co. are good locations for research. They are 30 to 40 minutes from Platteville. Your best central point is Platteville and branch out from there. If you have relatives in Lafayette Co., Darlington is 25 minutes away. The museum, library and court house are in walking distance of each other.
