I have been following the thread on the United Methodist Church. Although I haven't done a great amount of research on the church, I did stumble on to a division of the Church that looks to be beneficial to use in the future. It's called "The General Commission on Archives and History". GCAH for short. I've included a link here: http://www.gcah.org/ They have an online catalog which includes, at the very least, a partial inventory of their manuscript collection. I hope this helps.
