Thanks Mary & others who responded, I've been informed which records contain parents of couples, thank goodness, as I'd not remembered seeing reference to that info in anything other than original sources. Now here's my quandary: I'm trying to justify and clear up source notations on old notes and files, and now think it better to order a film or book, rather than try to get a single original record, BUT... I get flustered when I try to compare and understand the various record sources and their descriptions: FHC Library Catalog; the GCGS Publications; and the SHS of Wisconsin holdings. That along with the idea that some materials are available at County level which are not at State repositories, gets me confused as to where to turn next in my hunt. It seems the FHL Catalog (vol. 1A-6B; Call# 977.577 V28m) lists the same indexes of marriages which are offered from the GCGS, but I don't see one there which corresponds to the second one, noted below (--). I wonder if the following GCGS offerings contain enough differing material, and if the second is a complete transcription with index, as it appears (not to mention missing date reference). - Marriages for Grant County, Wisconsin Index 1A: Earliest to 1859 105pp paperback. Cross indexed for bride and groom. --Earliest Marriages of Grant County, Wisconsin 104pp paperback. Cross indexed for bride, groom and witnesses. Then to further my consternation, I wonder if an index isn't necessary at all, if the LDS filmed the originals from the Bureau of Vital Statistics, and put films in order of years, by county (not sure how therein they are ordered...date, alpha, location, etc.), might I be more productive and cost efficient to order at least one film I'm interested in, check for spelling variants myself, and extract what I can for related families and perhaps some list members while I have it? (e.g., Marriages, 1850-1858 - Film #1266983 ) <sigh> Hoping for clarity that comes from time, determination and good advice from the wise perspectives of more experienced researchers.
