The picture was taken in 1916 after the death of their mother. Gertrude is also buried in the Catholic cemetary in Plainville, KS. The only lead I have on Peter Hilger (no S) appears in the 1850 census for Belgium, Wisconsin in Washington County with an about birth date of 1799 with a wife and three children with the 6 year old born in Germany and the younger two in Wisconsin. If I can hook him up to Michael in Germany I'll let you know.
