Recorded in Book 6, Page 20. John is recorded as the son of Cornelius and Mary (Unknown) McCloud. Mary the daughter of James and Lydia (Unknown) Mahan. A possibility for Mary's parents from the 1870 census are: 1870 Census, Lancaster, Grant, WI, Pg. 254, Household 410 James Mahan, 40, PA Mattie, 25, WI Sarah, 16, WI Mary, 15, WI Ashley, 10, WI Anna, 5, WI Alice, 3, WI Frederick, 3/12, WI (born in March) (Question is, was Mattie a second wife based on the children's birthdates??) No sign of Cornelius in the 1870 WI census index. Something intreguing here: From, "Memorable Happenings in The Grant County Herald Newspaper, 1870-79," compiled by Cheryl D. Lemanski: McLeod, Anna, married William Hildebrand, March 1877, Orient, [Adair], IA. Recorded in the 20 Mar 1877 issue of the Herald. Was Anna, John's sister?? In the 1870 Grant Co., WI census there is an Anna McCloud, age 16, Domestic Servant, born in WI living in the John and Catherine White household in Glen Haven Twp., Grant, WI. This may be here, but no other McCloud's I can find in the county. Wish I had more to help you out, but this might provide "M's" first name who was living with John in the 1880 census.
