I know that many Ellises in Grant descend from the Washington Ellis line, but I can't confirm that ours are connected. My ggrandfather, James Russell Ellis, was born in Beetown in 1874. His parents were Jabez Stephen Ellis and Susanna Carter. We cannot track Jabez down. We know he was born ca. 1826 Saratoga, NY . One relative has found him on the 1850 Grant census. His mother was named Sarah, and he had a brother named John. Jabez was half indian, but we do not know the tribe. His other children were: Clarinda b. 1867, Amy, Phyllis, William Walter, Susan, Elizabeth, and Ivy. Does anyone recognize these names? Also, I'm wondering if anyone has these names: Sarah Ellis married John Cottle 1845 Caleb Ellis married Nancy Moore 1854 Enoch Ellis I am wondering if these folks are related to mine.
