Hi all - Haven't written anything requesting information about my own family yet, so here goes: My great-great-grandmother was Nancy Troxel. She was the daughter of John and Rebecca (Shepherd?) Troxel, the eldest of at least six kids. Not sure about the rest of her family (heard they were traveling west into Iowa and something happened... everyone but her, a sister and a brother lived ... would love to know). Anyway, the family showed up in Richland County in 1870 and that's it. Seems like she lived much of the rest of her life in/near Eagle Township of Richland County, though I'm not sure how much was spent there or in possibly Grant County. I've looked for a death certificate for her in Richland County, to no avail; as her tombstone at the Basswood Cemetery in Eagle Township indicates she died in 1947. She first married Jesse Hardy, then Samuel Turnmire. Seems like she had one daughter with Samuel, the other five children (that I know of) with Jesse. Jesse and Nancy's son Oscar (who married Lora Kite) raised a family in Grant County, but he was apparently born in E! agle Township, Richland County. I would appreciate more information on the Troxel family, as well as a death date for Nancy. If anyone regularly goes to Lancaster to look up information would check to see if her death certificate is in Grant County, I'd appreciate it very much. I also have another ancestor who lived in Grant County for a spell. Samuel Groves, whose first wife died and who divorced his second wife, married a woman named Harriet Pettigrove in 1884. This was found from his Civil War record information. I am curious, when after his own children were grown, why he married a woman who was several years younger than himself and then had another child (he was 58 when his last son was born in 1885, which was about 25 years after his seventh child from his first marriage). After Samuel died in 1900, I have no idea whatever happened to his third wife, Harriet, and son Frank (with the exception that his wife died in 1916, because she was dropped as a pensioner). So what happened to Frank Harris? Anybody? Where is the cemetery in Avoca? Samuel is buried there (note his first wife was buried in Richland County); I wonder if Harriet and Frank are too. Please contact me if we're related, too! ------------------------------------------------
