LANCASTER GEORGE W. RYLAND, banker, Lancaster; was born in Selbysport, Alleghany Co., Md., Dec. 10, 1827. He received a common-school education. In 1853, he came to Wisconsin, locating at Lancaster; he was engaged in commercial pursuits, and, during Lincoln's and Johnson's Administrations, he served as Postmaster. He was Chairman of the Town Board from 1870 to 1877, and of the County Board five years. In 1872, he was sent as a delegate to the Republican National Convention, held at Philadelphia. In 1879, he was elected State Senator by a large majority over his two competitors. In 1867, he engaged in the banking and exchange business, and is, to-day, the senior member of the firm of Ryland & Co., bankers. [I am not related to this family.
