    2. As a person born amidst Catholics, my understanding was always that the "odd name" or "names" were usually for Saints and received at baptism. In the case of Prince Charles--of the Church of England persuasion-- isn't his litagy of names for the same reason? In German naming conventions, the first male was often named for his father or godfather. (Who was named for a Saint or someone from the Bible. ) Kathleen
