My gggrandfather, Ludwig Karl Julius, settled in Grant County ca1850. My source of information lists his name as Ludwig Karl Julius, but in parenthsis is (John Bernard) supposedly a baptismal name. Can anyone explain to me the custom. I'm having a hard time understanding the differences in his names. He had a son named Louis Karl Julius (Ludwig) as baptismal name. That one makes sense to me the other doesn't. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Beverly Miller
