SOOOOOO NEAT! sincerely John Dvorak GCGS til 2003 ----- Original Message ----- From: Aleise Oyen To: WIGRANT-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, August 03, 2002 8:05 PM Subject: Re: [WIGRANT] Grant Co. Plat Maps John, The one I have shows all the parcels of land in Grant County, along with the number of acres owned. Where there is a house, it shows who is residing there, mostly men's names. There is also an index in the back that gives the names of the town and city residents along with their occupation, or where they work and the year they first came to Grant County. Example: Oyen, Henry, Farmer and Stockraiser, S. 15 T. Jamestown, P.O. Dubuque, Iowa. 1897 Henry has a home on his fathers farm property in Section 15 of Jamestown Township. Unfortunately, it does not list this kind of information for landowners of large tracts of land. Thus, the information is not available for Henry's father Peter Oyen. When I look at Section 15 of Jamestown Township, I see the land (240 acres) owned by Peter Oyen and a house on the property that says: Resident, Henry Oyen. There are also some close up shots of the towns, showing parcel numbers and in some cases, names. Hope this helps. 3. John, I have gone through the Plat book and do not find any Dvorak's listed. I look at each piece of land in Muscoda Township and Castle Rock Township and didn't find any there either. If you relatives lived in the town of Muscoda, they would not be listed since a Plat map only shows country landowners. Could it be that their land is actually in Iowa County? The border is right along side the town of Muscoda.
