I had always assumed, from the 1870 Census Record, that (Wm.) Henry Winney's first wife was Elizabeth (Taylor) Winney of Glen Haven, Grant Co., WI. Then just recently someone gave me a copy of William Henry Winney's Last Will and Testament in which he speaks very clearly about giving his daughter the sum of $500--his daughter Anna Elizabeth Spencer--born Anna Elizabeth Winney. In the same Will, he gives his wife MARY L. Winney his estate for the duration of her life. The will was made out in 1901 and W.H. Winney died in 1907. Anna Elizabeth (Winney) Spencer was definitely my GGrandmother. I only heard of Elizabeth Taylor Winney as the wife of William Henry Winney thru the 1870 Census. The 1870 Census for William "Henry" Winney was in Glen Haven, Grant County, WI. The wife that was listed was Elizabeth and there was only one child, Anna E. (under-one years old.) By the time Anna E. married, she was in Sibley, Osceola Co., Iowa. How do I go about verifying that Elizabeth Taylor was actually Anna Elizabeth Spencer's mother? If she is, when did she die and Mary L. become William Henry Winney's wife? I do have a Census where William "Henry" Winney's wife was Mary L. in 1885. I am also seeking to find out about the Indian blood of Anna Elizabeth Winney. She was born in Glen Haven, Grant Co., WI. But the family always understood her to be part-Indian (not metaphorically as some people always are first to suggest). Thanks for any help. Kathleen LPurch6636@aol.com
