In the 1895 Plat Book for Grant County, it shows him having three parcels of land in Sections 22 and 27. The parcels totaled 160 acres. From Census records he was born c. 1827 in NY. He was the son of John Casler and Jane ?. John and Jane are both buried in the Casler cemetery which is located on one of the parcels of land owned by Philip. From the 1880 Census for Grant Co., Mount Hope Township John Casler was listed as 83 years old, Jane was listed as 75 years old and P.N. was listed as 43 and single. John was also listed as being born in NY and his parents were listed as NJ and NY (father, mother). Jane was listed as being born in NY and her parents were listed as NJ and PA. Philip Nelson Casler was married 03 Jul 1881, Grant Co., Wis (ref. 10-69) to Lillie Van Valkenberg. She was the daughter of Daniel Van Valkenbergh and Ruth Elizabeth Barker. Daniel was born in 1817 in NY and died 06 May 1897 at Mount Hope, Grant Co. From the index to Fennimore Times 1900-1909 it appears that John Casler and his wife, Jane, came to Grant County from NY in 1843. There is an article in the Fennimore Times issue of Oct. 21, 1903. From the Grant Co., Wis. birth records by David Taft, Elva Casler was born on 14 Aug 1888 at Mount Hope. Unfortunately, I could find nothing on Rolley Elliott's side. There are Elliotts in various places in Grant County but as yet I haven't been able to find a connection to Rolley or James William Elliott.
