I viewed the 1850 census for Grant County and I think the name is John S. Rankin. Looks to me like this may have been reported as Ranker in error. I also am looking for Rankin in Grant County, however, I do not have any information on the RANKIN line. I am trying to connect them to either BATIE, WILDMAN, OR MCIVER (MCIVOR) in Grant County. RANKIN is a middle name given to one of my uncles and a middle name given to on of my Grandfather's sisters. I feel it must be a surname, but have not found any connection, yet.
